Seen the old mans car ?, long gone but not forgotten. Built Duluth MN, '50s. Last seen 77 'Nats - Yellow with green blue flames. Check out the album on my profile. Comments welcome.
Outside of faintly remembering it from a photo in a magazine that was probably taken about the same time as those were I don't remember seeing it again.
I wish I knew where it was! It's a local car that I have always wondered what had happened to it! I know it was still around at the 82 or 85 nats, as I took a picture of it there. I was young and just getting into 40 Fords, and took a pic of it because I thought it was a 40. It wasn't until i got home and looked at my pictures that I realized it wasn't a 40! I have since seen a few other shots of it, and always thought it was a neat car! If you find it, I would suggest restoring it to the way it looked when it was red!
I took a picture of it in St.Paul in the late 70's (don't remember if it was 77 or 78) If I find the picture, I see if I can scan it and post it,... Very cool car !
1962 or later! The guy said it was Chevy powered here, guess he lunched the flatty at a drag strip. Also, the car was kind of a plum, wine color at the time. Thanks Bud!
You're awesome! Ray just passed away in October. You would've given him hope it was still cruising. That ill-fitting door was after being t-boned by an ambulance in Duluth. It was painted yellow after he sold it in 1969 -you know, dune buggies -vans 'keep on truckin' - how can we forget.....Thanks 40 & 61 Fords
Thanks 40 &61! He was a great Dad, maybe you met him one time/ he had a vendor spot at every swap meet in MN! An old car friend, Dale, took these - looks like Central hillside. Dig the Desoto bumpers and snappy padded top! He must have had a fortune in that flatehead. What year do you think these were taken? R.I.P. - R.O.P.
Looks like the plate says 1958 on it. BTW those are 49 plymouth bumpers on it. Wasn't it his old rail job that the Misfits had in thier display at the Duluth WOW a few years ago? From all the stories by Billy Bissonet I've read in the Linechaser, sounds like Duluth's rodding scene was a good as the one in the Twin Cities back then!
Very sorry for the loss of your dad. I keep going back and forth looking at every detail of every picture. INCREDIBLE, thank you for sharing!! TR.
Hey you livin across the lake,oh the legend is gone ,ya the economy and we are geting older and i need more guitars!!! get you butt out here on the hamb these guys would love your music your still the best in my book!
try putting an ad or something in the local daluth paper or something. ifi t was around and in great shape in the 80's....it must still be somewhere . great car and i wish you lots of luck
I've seen guy's put ads on Ebay too. Just like a sale ad, only looking for info on a car. Not sure how legit it is as far as ebay is concerned, but they can't complain too much if they get their $$$$$$. The car was too custom to have ended up a 90's smoothie car, so it's probably hiding in a shed somewhere. Where was it sold the last time? At the nats, or just local? If the guy your old man sold it to remembers, it may be a start. Also, any buddy's in the police or DMV office that could run a VIN check for you?
Coolest part of this to me is that it was in Duluth. I lived there for 4 years, 8 years ago and I guess, I didn't meet the right people because the car scene seemed almost noexistant to me. I still have land there and may move back someday. My wife and I really liked that city. Just wished I whould have had more car buddies to hang out with. Sorry, nothing to add I just though it was cool to see cool cars from that area. Good luck with your search
We may build in Duluth when I get home. I have a good lot in Duluth heights with room to build a nice shop. I like the city but not the best job market for what I do. Just an idea, you may want to link this thread to the MN and WI social groups. I wouldn't be suprised if it showed up at "Back to the 50's", It's a huge show and close to Hudson.
thursday 5/19/2011 i saw a baby blue car that resembled this car, i think it had red flames on it. it was traveling west on Illinois Rte 64 in Ogle County. not trying to send you on a wild goose chase but it was chopped, sectioned, no running boards so it resembles the car in this thread.
Thought you'd find a pin up ?? These just turned up, 36 coupe recently bought with paper route - according to pics. Last seen, Hudson WI
I subscribed to this thread, i'm sittin' on pins and needles hoping you find your dad's car. Best of Luck!!!
Funny, but I like the way it was first, like most cars/rods I see go through owners,90% of the time they looked best the first time mod were done.
