Satin black '51 chev. I'm thinkin I need to stick with orange on the engine. Sounds like a dumb question now that I asked it. Anyway, what you guys think?
depends on what look you are going for - I used to always do orange. but, now I like black better if running any chrome.
red I think 265s in 55 maybe 56 where red. I plan to do up a sbc to look a 265, I have a set of 55 manifolds.
I have an OT 67 chevelle nantucket blue (light metallic blue) been painting my motors with pontiac blue for almost twenty years now.....
I was going to orange... but after considering I dont know what color I am painting the truck I decided black would match anything...
Wow!, hate to say this but you guys weren't too much help. lol. I've always done orange, it just seemed right. Its sittin on a stand right now, black, and lookin great. Second guessing! I'm going for a '60s style. Black cheaters and cragars. 1320,- love your car, (hope to race ya sometime) but isn't Mr Goodwrench a little young for this site?
If your hood is closed, doesn't matter, but if the engine is exposed, make a statement, YELLOW or GOLD.
Dark grey does look great. You cant see if from my pictures put mine is metallic black. It looks more grey in person. Pretty badass color.
Chevy motors gotta (to me) be orange. I have one of each, the orange one just looks correct even though both are identical. Alex.
orange, so when its clean and nice everyone will know. the block on our smallblock is black, but it just looks greasy, not black. but the top end is orange and it looks good
Engines don't run near the temperature ranges where colour plays a significant role in thermal radiation. At engine temperatures surface finish is much more important: a shiny engine will retain more heat than a dull engine. Paradoxically we're inclined to make the bits off which we want to radiate heat shiny, and the bits where we want to retain heat less so. Logically one would want highly polished cylinder heads and a dull matt oil pan, but it'd just look wrong ...
I love orange SBC's , but went with black because it won't show any leaks, road grime, etc. Orange looks good for awhile but then starts to discolor to that funky color and burn out around the exhast ports, etc.
Thats what I was thinking. I dont like orange, especially with a black car. I also dont like all black, body AND engine, frame and wheels. reminds me of the Knight Rider trans am I hated the look of that car. I like the idea of the engine being a different color than the body/wheels. just not the orange. Well, off to eat some turkey.
