Satin black '51 chev. I'm thinkin I need to stick with orange on the engine. Sounds like a dumb question now that I asked it. Anyway, what you guys think?

depends on what look you are going for - I used to always do orange. but, now I like black better if running any chrome.

With black paint, you can't see any oil leaks...

If your hood is closed, doesn't matter, but if the engine is exposed, make a statement, YELLOW or GOLD.

Black sheds internal heat faster than lighter colors.

I'd do it gray. It would have some contrast and look great with chrome or aluminum.

I must say black: classy, clean and goes with any body colour.

Chevy motors gotta (to me) be orange. I have one of each, the orange one just looks correct even though both are identical.

Engines don't run near the temperature ranges where colour plays a significant role in thermal radiation. At engine temperatures surface finish is much more important: a shiny engine will retain more heat than a dull engine.

Paradoxically we're inclined to make the bits off which we want to radiate heat shiny, and the bits where we want to retain heat less so. Logically one would want highly polished cylinder heads and a dull matt oil pan, but it'd just look wrong ...

I love orange SBC's , but went with black because it won't show any leaks, road grime, etc. Orange looks good for awhile but then starts to discolor to that funky color and burn out around the exhast ports, etc.

Thats what I was thinking. I dont like orange, especially with a black car. I also dont like all black, body AND engine, frame and wheels. reminds me of the Knight Rider trans am  I hated the look of that car. I like the idea of the engine being a different color than the body/wheels. just not the orange. Well, off to eat some turkey.
