I don't know the Ford standard transmission very well, and am wondering what transmissions had this bolt pattern? I have an early (50ish) Overdrive 3spd that has this pattern, but what other transmissions would bolt to the bellhousing?
I just bought a cragar (#304 I Think) adapter for my olds engine and want to run a 4 spd behind it. The transmission bolt pattern on the adapter looks like the one I made the childrens art picture of. Like stated, I do have a 50ish Ford 3 speed overdrive that looks like it would bolt up to it, but want to put a 4spd (stronger trans) behind my Olds. Wondering what transmissions have that same bolt pattern.
Would it happen to look like this. This is an early Ford T 10 four speed. Ford change to the wide bolt pattern in 1965. There are some top loaders out there but the T10 is earlier to find
I think for a short time they also ran them with both the small pattern and the wide pattern on the same trans unit. Generally that is considered the 1949-up pattern (as the wider pattern which followed was considered the "new" pattern by the old timers.
It sounds like the trans in the picture in post 4. A hamber picked up an early Olds motor/trans with the early 60s Ford big-car T-10 setup that was built decades ago, and is a very uncommon swap for back then. Search hamb for threads by: mndodge
I can tell you that a 66 Ford truck bell housing has the thicker bosses inside for the narrow pattern but they were never drilled and tapped. It can be drilled and tapped for the earlier pattern. I'm putting a 56 OD trans behind a 66 352 by drilling and tapping the 66 bell housing.
