Will the front clip and doors from a 46-48 Chrysler or Desoto fit the Plymouth? Has anyone tried it? I have a Plymouth club coupe, but I like the fade aways on the Desoto/Chrysler. Also the grills on those brands lends more to modification. Thanks.
the difference is where the fenders meet the cowl, I believe. The chrysler front sheetmetal is longer also.
The also have fender flairs that extend into the front doors, Plymouth WB is 117 Dodge DeS, Chry is 121. As noted the difference is from the cowl forward.
I WAS thinking that replacing the doors AND front clip might work... But.. What your saying is the increased wheelbase is partly attributable to the distace from the cowl to the center of the front wheel? Is the shape of the cowl also different? Anyone have pictures of the front of the cab/firewall from a chrysler or desoto? Thanks in advance guys.. I know these questions are kind of specific.
The desoto, dodge and chrysler are identical fom the cowl back......the plymouth is smaller in all dimmensions . Doors, fenders, hood none of those will interchange to the plymouth from the other 3. Sorry. Dodge wheel base is 119.5
Sounds like you will have to do some cutting ,modifying and welding.Swaps like this always need modifying. This is the fun part, having a car that most people cant figure out what you did. I grafted my 34 Desoto Airflow front clip to a 48 Chevy Fleetline. The Desoto was 6 inches wider than the Chev. Ended up building my own doors from scratch to bring everything together. Good luck.
The chrysler and desoto could come with a straight 8 as well as a 6, the plymouth and dodge only had a 6. IIRC, hence the difference in length.
The new yorker came with a straight 8, the desoto a 25 inch big 6, the dodge a 23 inch 6. The windsor also came with the bigger 6......the plymouth a 23 inch 6. See the difference in the length of the fenders between the the wheel well and the cowl.
