**FOOSE P-32 Roadster >> Have you Studied the Steering??**

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by Malcolm, Sep 4, 2010.

  1. Fooses setup is really nice and clean. I don't think anybody has ventured a guess as to "why" rather than the how. I donno if anybody has asked Chip?

In my opinion, it's a killer way to solve the steering setup complications you create when doing a really low spring behind axle setup. Instead of ****ing with trying to put your tierod out in front or putting it underneath the wishbones but having to modifying the frame to allow for clearance when you hit a bump.

It's such a beautifully simple fix...I love it! it really has opened my eyes to the new possibilities of lowering a car without creating ugly complicated and cramped steering mods.

So, yeah I dug up this thread. I recently found a 1/64 scale P-32 at the local wallyworld. It is painted camo rather than being left raw steel color, so I took it out of the package to remedy that. It also sits too high and I am trying to figure out how to lower it a bit. Searched the internet for pics of the actual P-32 and ended up on this thread.

Anyway, someone mentioned the WHY question. I guess that was answered in the SRM article already quoted by the builder himself. I also bet the execution of the details had to do with continuing the aircraft theme. Having tweaked on mechanical push-pull flight controls on F-15's for a few years it looks way similar. Yes, the F-15 is hybrid fly by wire, but has mechanical linkages to all surfaces. The details in the bellcranks and tubing looks like something straight out of WWII era aircraft right up until fly by wire took over. Nice detail to continue the design theme.
