Bear claw vs factory door latches (50 fords)

I also used Bug latches on my sled, JC Whitney brand new really inexpensive.

 

Nice job. They look clean. Do you have a pic of the striker you could post? I want stock (ish) looking but safe for my kids... and random pedestrians who may happen to be standing on a corner and wear a 50 door!

I tend to leave the old stuff on my cars. But I have had my door come open a couple times on my 51. After all the work you have done on that car and as cool as its turning out. I think you should probably put them on there.

 

Yeah that's what I'm worried about spending all the time and money and the door flys open and hits something...

 

I put bear claws on my 29, partly because when I built the doors I hinged them suicide style and flush fit the doors so I wanted to make sure they stayed closed. Got mine from Speedway 3 years ago and they are working just fine. Very solid feel when they latch, I would use them on anything I build in the future.

They used bear claws on the Uparmored HMMWVs and LMTVs. Those doors are no joke weight wise and the bear claws took a beating but I never seen one fail.

 

30 years ago I used VW bug type latches that I mounted into my stock 49 Ford housing. Shaved the doors and installed electric solinoids.....they have been working great ever since.

Ha! I bought some Bear Claw latches from the guy who sells them here, o haven't installed them but they look beefy not cheap looking
