my dad has recently decided to try to find his old studebaker. one of just over 3,000 made for this particular model. license plate is (was) Cal plates JYC 500. he sold it in late 66, early 67 in alhambra, CA. it had a 289, auto trans, AM radio, bucket seats, black and white interior. i've posted this up on the Studebaker Driver forum month ago as well. no info yet. unfortunately, he dosent have any VIN info in possession. this is his "i should not have sold it" car he still talks about. so, i thought i'd post it up here. thanks HAMBers!
Hey, Start haunting the Studebaker web sites and shows! That's a good lookin' Studebaker. Swankey Devils C.C. "Spending A Nation Into Generational Debt Is Not An Act Of Compassion!"
I think the only shot you stand on that one is to find a police officer who would be nice enough to run the plate (a PI might be able to get the info too). I'm sure he can't tell you who the plate is registered to today, but he probably can tell you if A: It's still in the system, and if it is B: if it's registered to a Studebaker or not. After that, with no serial number info for the car, you're probably SOL. On the other hand, that means there's no reason any other '56 wouldn't do and just add the options to match.
If this picture is of your dad's car and that is his plate on it. Then it should be easy to search his original title and get the serial #. Once you have that. The SDC currently has a Skyhawk Registry. If an active SDC member has this car? They may have it listed on the registry. Good Luck Brian PS There are Sky Hawks listed on eBay. Your Dad could just buy one and enjoy the ride all over again??? Before it is too late!
