I have a 1951 Hudson Wasp with flud drive just got it running motor runs well. But I have a hard time getting trans in gear it seems to shift ok into 2 & 3. But when it comes to a stop it wants to drag again. Clutch seems to be adjusted ok. Anyone ever have this problem and know of a fix. thanks jim
If, when you say "fluid drive", you mean a fluid filled clutch then you probably need to change the fluid in the clutch. These clutches have a tendency to "stick" especially if the vehicle has been sitting for a while. Check out the Hudson Es*** Terraplane (HET) club (Google HET) for sources for the correct fluid.
Have you drained/flushed the clutch? What fluid are you using? These are known to stick after sitting for extended periods. Lots of help here: http://www.cl***iccar.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=showcat&catid=13&Itemid=152
Hudsonite clutch oil has been available for probably 30 years now in the original formula and don't even THINK of using any subs***ute that anyone mentions. Yes, if your clutch is sticking it should be rinsed out so check with some authority on those cars for the best cleaning solution before you put in new genuine Hudsonite. Some of those original wet cork clutches went 100, 200, 300,000 miles without replacement. Had a friend who drag raced a Hornet powered '50 Pacemaker coupe and never blew a cork clutch. All Hudson clutches were cork faced from about 1912 to 1954 except the little Hudson Jet compact of '53-54. Some extreme HD fork lift trucks have cork clutches today!
