Let's have a picture thread for exclusively deep dark blue paint jobs. I'd like to see some examples. Who has the deepest blue that almost looks black in the right light ? Thanks for any you can post with paint type and code too maybe .
I like the blue on the Vern Tardel / Mike Bishop roadster from the How to Build a Tradional Ford Hot Rod book, so dark almost looks black
'93 or '94 BMW. Called Avus (Avis?) Blue. Pricey at the time, probably has gotten better. One year only, replaced with a color called "Meritus Blue." Not as dark and not as brilliant.
Here is my 65 Cyclone. Painted a 67 Ford color Nightmist Blue Iridescent. Looks blue in direct sunlight, almost black in normal light. Out in the sun. Inside away from direct sunlight.
I went to the chip book and found a very dark blue. From a Cavalier and it has no metallic in it. Now the bad part, DuPont paint and its over $90.00 a pint
Would be possible to write the name of the paint and the model year of the car it was applied? I am also looking for a deep blue non metallic for my 32 sedan, and hope to get some ideas
Here's mine. It looks blue with the right light but many people think it's black. It's a GM color from a 89/93 Buick called Dark Blue metallic
Mine was a 1980s Cadillac color with a ton of black with a hue of Mica.... depending on the light parts would glisten like Sapphire and melt into a deep... deep.. blue almost black finish!
Chevy called it "Danube Blue". Lotsa metallic. Under certain artificial lighting,it looked almost purple.
There was a build thread here ,a beautiful 36 Ford coupe that had a really good deep blue paint job. I search and search and I can't for the life of me find it. I wish the Hamb had some organization wher things like build threads could be listed, kept and always found. This helter skelter all over the place style sucks. Anyone possibly remember the build thread I am talking about ?
82 Cadillac Twilight blue. http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?gmcode=WA7103 The color is on other GM cars . It is heavy on the metallic though. It looks black at first glance in the shade or other dim light.
My raggedy ol' '40 has twenty-five year old paint that was a Chrysler color from the early '80s. Appears near-black in anything other than direct sunlight. DD
There is an older thread on here that was pretty good. Mine is Ford Lyons Blue, with the a dark black used in the mix:
Not much to look at but my DD '55 Chevy pickup is dark blue metallic (where it's not black primer) haha.
The truck in my avatar is a Washington blue. Looks pretty close to black in the shade. It's non metallic though.
The 36 in my avatar is, porsha, "ocean blue" it doesn't take much of a cloud to look black. There is a hint of purple, and green in the sun, but it is a metallic. There is better pictures in my albums
Found the thread I was thinking of, love the color. But lets see more, any you can remember. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=387392&highlight=paint
I really do like the 2010 Buick color but am torn between the metalic it has and a more traditional solid color like the one I posted above. Not sure at this point. Any more ?
