I just done reading a couple really good articles in TRJ, as usual! One about the Clapton Phantom 32 Vicky and the other about the "The Old Master" restored by Pete Eastwood (P-Wood is one of my heros!). Both articles stirred up a lot of excitement for me! Just to create a conversation, do you think we will see more of '32 (or other years) four door Vickys pop up now? Not to the perfection or the extent of the incredible body work as Clapton's, but if a guy comes across a Vicky that has front end damage maybe he sees how good this one looks and tries to perform a similar surgery on a Fordor he has or looks for a donor body as a canidate? I for one am anxious to see this one completed! And I'm not foreshadowing here, I have no intentions of tacking a task like that!
As time goes on, we will see more cars hot rodded that were never hot rodded before. Not necessarily because of any particular article, but because there aren't many barn finds left except the stuff people didn't want to hot rod years ago!
The Clapton Four Door Vicky looks very nice, I wonder if the hobby need a new term to discribe projects like this? Could have been design concepts in the day if done nicely really get my attention. The '34 Four Door C-400 built my a HAMB member comes to mind. I've got a project in the back of my mind, even had a HAMB artist do a design sketch for a Model A along these lines. Should be a good thread with the addition of some photos. I'll have to go back to Barnes & Noble and buy the issue I thumbed through the other day.
I think you don't realize what happens, When 32 coupes were popular many years ago, they were saved. Vicky's weren't so popular so many were crushed. The same goes for 55 Chevy's ETC.
I don't think you will see a lot of folks building "Phantom Vicky 4 doors" because of the article or the car. You've got to remember that Clapton probably already has one of everything else and the money to have cars like this built on a whim. Larry T
The era of the "phantom" Cars was strong from about '81 or so through about '93 or so. They've had their day. I just don't see them getting popular again with today's excepted build quality. What made them work then was that 'glass was not only acceptable, but the hot ticket at that time. Today, not so much. I personally didn't like Clapton's new car... I can't imagine ADDING two doors to anything!
I agree with Gotlouvers, can't see adding doors to anything and I dought we will see a rash of 4 door Vickys. I found the artical very interesting, particularly how they constructed the bussel. Very similar to how I did on the Vicky body I built. I too started with what was left of a 4 door sedan but I didn't keep the back doors!
Great points guys!!!!! Very nice metalman!!!! Here is the build up pictures off of Brizio's website. I love the brown!! http://www.roybriziostreetrods.com/progress/clapton_32/index.htm
A friend of mine from OK built a 28-29 Model A Victoria some years ago, sold it to some guy from FL, and saw it in a rod magazine a few months later. It was, naturally, built by the FL buyer. HA
I think not. Do you have any idea how much it cost to have the Brizio boys built you a car like that. or any good rod shop for that matter and ther the best
