i want to swap the manual trans thats in my truck to a newer overdrive manual transmission. i heard it can be done with a bell housing from a 3 speed on the column 292yblock and a t5 mustang trans 93 or older but i hear that a t5 is not really that strong and wouldnt last in my truck due to its weight and work done to the motor. what else could i use and keep it manual?

You could do a gearvendors. They have one that is a stand alone unit that goes between your ****** and rear end

like i really want a 5 speed overdrive and the t5 would be and easy swap i just dont know how well it would hold up behind a motor pushing 300+ horse and weighing 5000 lbs

I have a T5 in my 50Deluxe behind a 302, and I think its a great trans. I do however hear its only good for about 400 hp. If your stuck on the T5 look for around a 90 mustand, they were HO and can handle a little more.

    You could go with a Richmond 5 speed, T500 or T600. I used a Richmond 6 speed behind a 550 hp BBC.
