On road trips and such, what do you carry for a jack? I have a heavy 60's car (Riv) that needs to be jacked up in two stages to get the rear tires off - once under the axle then once on the frame. I need something strong, but something that will get under 3.5" of frame clearance. Was thinking of a scissor jack from a newer car/truck. Any other ideas? Thanks, TR
I carry a small floor jack and a board in my truck. Sams club has an aluminum one if weight is an issue. I dont like the instabilty of those cheap scissors jacks and bumper jacks were junk when they were new so they still are not a good alternative.
I like the scissors jacks from new trucks. Trucks are full-framed and usually pretty heavy--not unlike our cars. -Brad
Tim, you may be able to use one of the little cheap floor jacks. Use it at the side of the car on the frame and by lifting there the car comes up and the rear end and tire hangs and usually can be pulled off. We use that method on Kelly's 51 coupe as it is too low otherwise to get the rear tire off. Pat.

When I was a kid and they'd show up at the skatepark you'd just evacuate and hope like hell you didn't get in the way of one of those guys...
Pat, thanks. Actually that's the method I use too. Damn kids and their lowriders eh? I'm hoping to take the Riv back to AB in July, that's why I'm asking. Hope to catch you soon. Wideglide, that rules. I'm not from Van so that's the first I've heard of this. Damn, the more time I spend on the HAMB the more I want to break out my old Alva and go hurt myself . This can't be healthy.
newer s-10 scissor jacks are good enough for an old car, just consider the amount of time it takes to get a car off the ground with a scissor jack.
Look at the jack out of a Camaro/Firebird. Like the old post jacks, but the post is horizontal and scissors up the pad.
