So a few months back I ran into a killer deal on a 1965 El Camino 1 owner car. Since I had just bought my second 67 camaro I told my father in law about it and a few days later she was in my driveway. My Father in Law wants to build for his only son Eddie which will be helping us on the way. Our plans are to do a ground up restoration and keep it all original with a few mods to the brakes. It has a 283 and a powerglide trans which are the original power train that came in the car. So today 11-26-2011 we finally got together and worked on it. Cheesy build start picture. Thats me in the dodger shirt and my oldest son Ernie guy in the blue is my bother in law and his dad standing next to him. And to work we went >>>> And my baby helping out... So now we have all the body bolts off and I think we should have the body off tomorrow. We chopped trough most of the wiring cause it was a combination of romex and antenna wire. Not bad for a days work.
Great start to a project. The '65 Chevys are my favorite year. I did a '65 Biscayne and upgraded to a Drag Pack option.
So we hit it for a few hours on Sunday we got all the body bolts off and started separate the body from the frame we thought that with the help of a few friends we would be able to pick up the body and move it. Wrong !! So we got some left over wood from when we redid my roof and with the help of a old skateboard and a little more lifting we started to roll out the frame. With the frame out and the car on good supports we started to tear apart the frame and get parts ready for powder coat. We also took apart the motor and trans which look like they have had better days ! Hopefully we can save the block and reuse it. Here are a few pics of that. Our plans are to send everything out for powder coat by Wednesday and hit the Pomona swap meet hard on Sunday. We should be sending out the block on Friday and pick up a trans kit on Sunday.
Green gr***, green trees, green car. What is going on? Okay, green cars are still green in Kansas during winter. Hope you guys have fun with the re-build!
