I have been searching but I can't find a definate answer. Does anybody repop 1950 Pontiac, 41-46 ford, 41 chevy, or 38-39 ford taillights that are made in the good ol U.S.A.? I am looking for taillights for my model A and I want to use originals or made in the U.S.A. no chinese. Thanks for the help.
BOB DRAKE!!!!! The best. Google him, he's in the Pacific Northwest. Everything proclaiming high quality in his catalog is too modest. He's one of the originals.
Give Roy a call at Wirth's Custom Automotive. His number is 800-929-9948. You can check out his website at www.wirthscustomauto.com
I don't know if Wirth's are offshore or not , but I can tell you they are very nice people who go out of thier way to help & stand behind their products!!!! Tnat's worth a bunch to me . dave
The Ford ones are pretty easy to find as originals, and the visible parts are stainless and gl***. Streetrodders don't care about originality or origin, so prices are not high. Pontiacs are hard to find in decent shape as originals because the plastic lenses and potmetal rim are usually pretty nasty. No idea where the Drake parts are made now, but his catalog said that the Pontiac repros were made to Ford standards.
Thank God someone else gets it, you can spot those cheap Chinese "1950 PONTIAC STYLE" lights from a row over at a car show... Nothing like the real things!
You think the Chinese ones are bad. You obviously are not old enought to remember the ****py Argentina repo parts that preceded all the good stuff from guys like Drake and Carpenter. Absolute ill fitting garbage if they fit at all ****. The Chinese stuff is a leap forward compared to 50's 60's repo stuff.
I'm a dealer & I've got news for ya. They're all coming from the same place, including Bob Drake's. He just has prettier boxes. This is the world we live in. Try finding brake drums & rotors made here. They don't exist. Wagner, Bendix, Raybestos & everyone else has gone to China. Find someone you like to deal with & give them your business. The quality is the same everywhere. I sell a ton of them & they're really pretty decent. Besides, it's all we've got.
Boy!! that's the truth. The Argentina stuff of the early 60s was pure ****. They were not made for restorations. They were made as replacement parts to keep the old cars still on the road in Argentina at that time. Accuracy was not a consideration for them. Very similar to Cuba today.
some great prices!lots & lots to look at. like it was said above ^^^ i think everything is made some place else then sent back to us. here's bob's contact info:: ___ http://store.bobdrake.com/
