Hoping someone can help me out here. Was there any Dodge hemi or poly car application that used conventional side motor mounts? All I have ever seen are the front saddle type mounts, even on the blocks with side mounting lugs. Thanks. Tom
not sure about whales but all the elephants have side mounts im pretty sure all polys have side mounts (i only had one poly) it was a 1963 and it was like 15 years ago
YES - 55 was a new year and a new frame - the six's still used the frame mount under the water pump but the V/8's used the frame mount ears off the block....I own some so I know a little....I have a little Red Ram 53-54 motor in my 56 Plymonth using the water pump mount....(which uses the six cylinder motor mount holes)....
imported some high deck Dodge 315 blocks downunder, came with round cylinder type rubber mounts attached to the lugs cast into the block, definitely mother MoPar mounts..... D633 1956 Dodge 315 Poly block out of a Custom Royal
I do believe that 1956 was the first year for side mounts for Dodge/Ply 270 type engine. 1955 Poly still had the front mount...at least the one in my bone yard is like that... .
Pretty sure you're right on with this one, my g/f's '55 Coronet has a 270 poly, its front mounted just like the 6's were. No side mounts on the block. Same for the 270 poly I pulled out of a '55 Dodge truck down at pick-n-pull, front mount.
My 1955 270 Super Red Ram has the front waterpump mount. Google hotheads for all your Hemi needs, a great source for info and parts....
Reading this...he's asking if you've seen a factory installed 56 & up engine where the factory used the side mounts. Not weather the block had the mounts.
O and i know that Imperial Services (Steve i think) used to be good with them but i think i read some bad reviews here a few days ago?!?!? Its been a few years since i delt with him but might b worth lookin into. Good luck man.
All tall deck motors 315 and 325s had side mounts. I've seen pictures of what was suposed to be a 55 270 poly with side mounts but never one for real.
My 270 has no side mounts, I made a front mount like Speedway sells. I also have a 270 that has side mounts, I think it is a 56 Poly. Lee
Hey Mr Waters... Every time I think I know-it-all I get proved wrong...****... 73RR is correct that '56 is the first year for conventional side mount motor mounts... All the 241 270 blocks used the motor mount plate off the water pump housing. The one exception would be the '56 Poly Head 270. I have a couple '56 Poly cores with conventional side motor mounts that came out of the '56 Coronet... Ma Mopar mixed things up for some reason and still used that front motor mount plate until the end of the 50's. I have a couple of '58 and '59 315 cores out of big dump trucks and they used that front motor mount plate even though there were "lugs" [if you call them that] off the side of the blocks for motor mounts...
Really strange if you think about it. They were making high dech 315 Hemi & Polys in '56, why would they go back & add ears to the low deck block for '56? Especially if they didn't use them.
Hey George... Ma Mopar DID use the "ears" off the side of the 270 Poly block in '56. Both of the '56 Poly's that I have came out of Coronet's and use the conventional motor mounts off the side... I think it strange that she offered the low deck engine in '56 when '56 was the first year of the 315 Poly... She must have had a huge budget to abuse to take the time to redesign the 270 block just to add a couple of motor mounts...
well...sorry...I was wrong....thought just because my pick-n-pull 1956 270 poly was side mounted....1955 would be to...learn me somethin every day...
Hey stillrunners... I was so sure [I was a know-it-all] that there were no low deck [241 259 270] blocks that had motor mounts off the sides of the block that I put up $100 on a bet... I LOST!!! I learned 2 lessons that day... 1 - I'll never understand Ma Mopar and the things she did in the mid-fifties... 2 - I am $100 poorer because I think I know-it-all... With that said I also WON where I don't think twice when I find any '56 Poly blocks. Those go home with me...
