Car culture in japan is beyond big, and i dont just mean american cars, even european, exotics, and their own domestics.
There is a huge scene for everything, and they even mix up w/out hating on each other. They know what respect means.
Im into lowriders and kustoms more than anything else, and Japan was/is a big influence for me w/ their bad ass domestics all done up just like their american cousins, something you dont see in every country, or their superior quality lowriders with paintjobs i can only dream about.

This said. a few pics of some of the worlds coolest car scene.

  2. Awesome. Just awesome. The cars, women (and even the Cypress Hill song) were all excellent. Good find. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Do you think any of these people had anything to do with Pearl harbor? They love the American lifestyle. What you just wrote even about our own most popular cars shows your narrow mindedness. I'd rather hang out with these guys than people like you.

It is shameful that you would bring up WWII. That debt was paid in full along time ago. You should visit the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum's web site and read some of the survivor stories from people who were children when Nagasaki and Hiroshima were annihilated. You cannot imagine, even through the worst nightmare you ever had, the horror of living through a nuclear explosion. Hopefully it will change your perspective. Don't hold on to hate.

This is pretty sweet. Wish I saw that when I was in Japan. Some of the most open minded people i met. When we toured there we people from all walks of life at the shows. Its really amazing how strict they are when it comes to certain things with style and what they are willing to pay for to get it.
Went into a punk/rockabilly/psychobilly store while there, TUK creepers cost 400-500 bucks, leather motorcycle jackets dyed different colors 800, man our cd was selling for 50 bucks.
Again awesome video thanks for sharing.

That's big money and alot of restrictions and bullshit laws these guys have deal with to fuel their passion. Just to drive a 50 year old car down the street in many countries outside the US nowadays is getting alot harder.
I stand corrected but i'm sure i read, that driving a "classic" style car out there has to be for show use only, similar to other countries and documented. Cool shit either way.

  9. Cool vid, always cool to see folks in other countries enjoying older American cars.

Waddaya I'm half-Japanese and was born there, and I gotta tell you Pearl Harbor was 70 years ago. If you were there I'll chill but I'm guessing you weren't. :)

    aint helping their case. haha.

  13. In general, the commitment to the vehicle is beyond what many in the States would go through. As mentioned above, it is not easy to have an older car over here, let alone a "foreign" car... I have seen basically perfect vehicles (of their make/model) here. These guys are very serious about their cars, and also from above, there is no cultural bias and prejudice amongst. And even with the language barrier, car guys can communicate. This weekend the Mooneyes show is being held in Yokohama, I am sure that pics/videos will be posted..

  14. I'm stoked most everyone liked it as much as I did. Can't please everybody, and that's what makes it great.

Please leave race and actions from past generations out of this post. I wanted us to appreciate what others have brought to the table and raised the bar with, not decisions we had no control over.

Wow, can't believe he pulled the "Pearl Harbor" card on this one. Why is it every time someone posts something on the incredible car and bike scene in Japan, somebody else has to bring it down with this kind of slander?

The Mooneyes Hot Rod and Custom Show is coming up in Yokohama on Dec. 4th. It's a sight to see. And believe it or not, they are building these cars themselves from the ground up!

Let's keep the conversation on cars please.

Ahh good memories. Just for some clarification, all the vids I saw here were Nagoya, not Yokohama. And the Galaxian is not a Fad-T, it's an all steel body. Incredible workmanship. Junichi also built the Rod Riguez ( http://auto.howstuffworks.com/rod-riguez-hot-rod.htm ) that now resides in CA somewhere.
These guys totally get it and they drive them everywhere, rain or shine. Incredible dedication and some really nice guys. And of course the cars speak for themselves.

You know me...Mr. Nice Guy. :)

Hey Comet, I see you're not in Japan anymore! Yes, the car scene in Nagoya is huge. They build 'em and cruise 'em. Junichi at Paradise Road is probably one of the most creative and artistic builders anywhere. He has a unique vision for sure. Here are a few pics of "RodRiguez" at Paso when he shipped it over and cruised it to shows in California in '05.

Tons more pics from Toshi at Local Hero on this thread too...

I knew the name before, but what is the name of the car at 1:14 and on till 1:28?

Incase you don't have the video up, it is the 409 powered, crazy paint, orange lexan roof, home made fiberglass bodied beast?

Never mind, saw the post above mine... feel kinda stupid.

So I pretty much skipped to posting on the last page...but, I can only imagine the sonic booms coming from the locals spinning their heads, some of whom have never seen the likes of these cars. And ironicly, I'll bet the quality of their work excedes a lot of stuff here in the states. They're crazy about quality and detail. And I can only imagine what it takes to get one of those cars registered over there.

BTW, if you ever get the chance to go to Tokyo, do it....the city itself is crazy, I had fun. Had a friend that was a back up singer for a Japanese cover band (don't remember the name) but they covered Humble Pie (why? I have no idea). I told the singer he should try covering more Zepplin...more his sound. The funny part was they asked me to do the introduction. The real irony, the show ended at about 9pm..why? because the trains stopped running at 11pm and taxis are $$. Went to resturant later (shoe removal and all) and got loaded on saki. Good times.
