My recently rebuilt AOD in my 89 Mark VII quit on me. Now car wont move in fact i can only start it in neutral, if you put it in reverse or drive it kills the engine. Do i need a new one or is it fairly easy to fix? Thanks

Sounds like it's grabbing forward and reverse at the same time like a ****** brake would. That coupled with the problem of having to start it in "N" seems like the linkage may need to be adjusted. Try that and see what happens.

For the trans to stall the engine when you engage a gear would indicate a converter that is still in lock up. With standard lock up converters, I'd be replacing the solenoid valve. However, the AOD has a strange lock-up system that is essentially in the transmission and not the converter. I don't know if a solenoid valve is involved. Sounds like something is not releasing in the trans. Also puzzling that you can't start it in park. I think I'd give the electrical connector above the shifter along with all the interconnecting wiring a good inspection to see if there are any shorts or open wires. Good luck
