    Hey everyone!
Im still a pretty new member, but i love getting on here to see what other people are doing and getting advice. This summer i purchased a 59 f100 from a farmer out in his field.. i drug it home and it has been sitting ever since... sad, i know. i lost motivation because it is a 2wd and im a 4x4 guy. Then one day i was talking to a feller about it and he said to put a bronco II frame under it. A bronco II frame will not work.. but a fullsize bronco will! So i traded a 66 f100 for a 1990 bronco.. too bad the guy lied about the mileage.. 220k instead of 120k.. o well. runs decent and has a 351... i hate liers.. anyhow. im about to get started. the f100 has a wheelbase of 110" and the bronc 104". should i cut 6" out of the bed or just add six inches to the frame? Im undecided.. so input really helps. please post pics if you have done something similar or seen it done! i found a 49 chevy as well that i might do with a chevy pickup if this goes well. :D
oh, when im done ill have a f100 ch***is and a bronco body to sell...
first two pics are mine.. last pic is end goalish... found it on google!

Probably will be a nice project but I THINK you're about to get blasted by the "traditional police" here. Maybe it'll be traditional looking depending on how you finish it, but it won't be trditional in any way mechanically.

Im not going for traditional. My favorite body style is the 57-60 f100.. New trucks cost too much! So i figured id build my own..

There must be lots of 4X4 forums, wouldn't this be better placed there? At least I'm being nice about it. Normal Norman

I don't get why everyone blasts the "traditional police" who try to keep this place what it's supposed to be.

I mean.... What's so hard to understand about "pre-64 traditional rods and customs"?

I think your rig is cool and all, but....

I dont want to high jack this thread.. but it just ****s everyone gets so pissy about being traditional. There is a wealth of knowledge on this site that I would never be able to obtain any other way, but if you do something different and need some advice you get blasted. I bet out of the 160k members on this board less then 10% build 100% traditional. After market brakes, non traditional performance mods, 4 link suspensions, etc.. etc.. I may even say none of us are purists.

Cant we let this guy build something different? Granted I am not a fan of 4x4 but it would be interesting seeing someone try it.

Apparently you do not understand. Go back and read the rules. There's a quiz later.

Ok, ok, I'll be nicer. That statement is for the C L A S S I F I E D S. If you search you will find other 4X4 trucks, a couple Camaros, even a Vega or 2, late 60s to early 70s T-birds, late 60s Mopar and GM "big cars", countless funnycars and top fuel cars from the late 60s to the early 70s, and much more. All totally on topic in their context. Can anyone reading this raise their right hand and say they've NEVER seen a 4X4 early truck doing the work of say, pushing a car on the salt? Towing a dragster? Hauling a load of sports cars? If that pre-64 thing that everyone gets their ******* in a bunch over was accurate, we'd lose probably 1/2 or more of the "Vintage shots from days gone by" thread.

It's about context and practice, not the year.

I came back to add this...suppose we dig up and post a few gennie 4X4s living in our world and maybe give this builder some inspiration?

I wish this was the truth. But it seems to be full of name calling and finger pointing.

    bro,look at it this way.
I had a ford truck with chevy drivetrain.
I joined a FORD TRUCK forum.
They welcomed me with open arms.
I was shoving my chevy questions in the ford ******** guys throats.
All of those guys were respectful and they helped me A LOT!
Then I realized that I was ****ing up.talking chevy in a ford forum.
I tried to stop posting there,I will only post if I have a ford related question.

I found the HAMB,traditional hot rods and customs.
it said no 4x4s,post 64,diesel vws etc.
But they had a COE group so its the only reason they took me,

I think your plan is great but its a gamble to try and openly post about it here.
there is a couple guys with 4x4s here but they are Napco conversions so they get slack and they try not to shove their projects here they just have them.

I think if you just hang out and ask the right questions, you will see that this is a great site and can help you with your build and all you have to do is read.

How bout stay and look for the guys with a similar build and ask them for help via PM.
Good luck fordtruckenthusiasts is a great place too.

  16. Again, beating the dead horse...this site is for traditional hot rods and customs. That's it. Sure, there's some bleed over an OT stuff pops up(sometimes relevant)....but I don't talk about my Corvettes here(even though one is pre-64), no, I go to the corvetteforum. Pirate 4x4 seems to be the HAMB for 4 wheelers, so why wouldn't there be more info there for this build?

Look - The S10 and Ranger frame swap threads get blasted and weren't they eventually closed? Well, this is not about an original 4X4 or Napco conversion - it's about a 1990 Bronco with an old body.
The OP even said he isn't going for Traditional ~ Well, here's the first sentence from Ryan on this board "The HAMB is dedicated to spreading the gospel of traditional hot rods and kustoms to hoodlums world wide." And how many times has he closed a thread saying "This is for Traditional Rods and Customs Fellas" ?

So tell, where is the line drawn?

Build it! Don't let all the naysayers get you down. How many mustang II frontends do we see on this site? 10,000? So you are using a newer ch***is just like a guy taking an old ch***is and boxing, 4-link, mustang II, etc. . When the truck is finished who will know? Maybe your truck or idea is not traditional but the members on the HAMB are the best build junkies in the world and I am sure someone can help with advice.

Finger pointing and name calling? Billy DID get more cookies than I did.
Make it breathe Huck. I'd shorten the bed. There some metal masters here but I'd shy from compromising frame integrity needlessly.
Get a flame suit. These "puristas" can really get high horsed.

Very cool project! Would make a great shop truck.

Here's the thing about this board though. It is for traditional rods and their enthusiasts. I love all kinds of cars/trucks/bikes/boats/etc. but if there are threads about them all it dilutes the board and makes the core of the board (the traditional cars) hard to find.

It's kind of like the 48 cut off year thing at runs. It's cool to see other stuff but there are other sites for that. When I got a hot rod run I want to see just hot rods, not Camaros. Maybe there should be an OT section for all the other stuff.

I don't want to discourage you from your project but I'm more interested in say, threads about putting my '29 sedan on Deuce rails.

Agreed.. well stated spork. Is there a forum out there for me then? My personal tastes are non traditional but I dont care for the rat rod crazy. I just like to make things that look sleek and go fast... I thought thats what hot rodding was about.

Nice start I would also like to put together an old Ford truck to tow and chase parts.I learned to drive in a 55 F250 and would plan to do one that vintage or older with some Dana 50 axles and a turbo diesel power plant.

I like it. Up here 4x4's get more drive time than hot rods so to me its the best of both worlds!!

I'd buy that Bronco body off you too if it wasn't so far away, getting tough to find clean ones around here......
