So alot of the older guys around here are convinced my car is "An old stardust car". Based on the condition i got it in, and the fact it seems to have never left the valley. (built in Oakland) It didn't make it very far Anyone remember or have picks of this place???
Ahhhhhhhh Johny Sardust Raceway, now that brings back fond memories of my often misled youth. Spent many a night and day out there loving the smell of burning rubber and nitro. I don't have any photos but several super 8 movies of some of the real movers and shakers that ran out there at thetime. I'd love to transform them over to dvds if I ever find any one here that can do that stuff. Hawwian funny car I believe. Mickey Thompson funny car mustangs. Stone Woods and Cook Willys I believe. So funny to watch.I think some of the new turbo mustangs run as fast as some of those back in the day but it was state of the art to me. Could hear the burn outs from the folks house if I was home and on restriction for somthing I did.lol. But if it was Saturday Saturday Saturday I was the fastest lawn mower there was ,got my allowance and blew it all at the track.lol. thats were I was crorupted on the tri fives also out there and I remember a few names of some of the local guys but I couldnt see anything on you car that I could relate to some of them. Any names on the care or past owners? That would help but there were a lot of them. Modified production and gassers you name it. OK wellgot to goLater Yruhot.....Doug
I remember going all the wayyyyyy out there to the desert (wasn't it a gravel pit prior?) to watch the drags and the Can Am races, no pics tho Yruhot, try Costco for converting those movies, I know they do conversions just not sure the formats available.
Did the casino. Have something to do with the strip....? I read something about don schumachers dad being in with the casino owners and that was how don got the name on the side....
I can throw out some local names , Hunter,Lewis and Perry aa/fa, Garry(One more Time) Green, anything that would run, Walker Bros. jr.fuel, Mike Forman's "jolly green giant", Corky's corvair, Ron D'lessio, Thunder Chicken.Boulevard Barbershop,tf. Ellis and Sharp (Snap Too) corvette. Ronnie Campbell,Grey Ghost Z11 , Angelo Falzone (Facetious)F/c. Fat Al, --Man,I have to catch my breath and let my old mind catch up with some of the great times we had out there before the place was turned into homes, Spring Valley by Pardee. The Stardust was behind the deal for the Can-Am series and the drags, Leo Margolian, Larry Horten and Big Paul Culley were in charge.More to follow!
Nope, that was The Las Vegas Speedrome now know as "The Strip" at Las vegas. Across from Nellis Air Force Base. The Stardust was west on Tropicana prolly around Rainbow? Lol, did the roads out that "far" even have names then
Doug, Just noticed your comment about wanting to have your old 8mm movies digitized. I have all of the necessary high end equipment to do it and it's something I enjoy doing. It's a hobby for me---I enjoy the hell out seeing and working with old school drag racing home movies--- and would do it for nothing. I have several old home movies posted on You Tube under the user name of "MrPLW. Here's the link. "http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=569217&highlight=movies You may be acqainted with a good friend of mine down there who's heavily involved with all of the car shows, events, etc. He spends 24/7 attending almost every car function in the area where he photgraphs and videos everything for his website. He goes by the name "vegaslugnut." Give me a call if you'd like and we can discuss it. 406-455-1937 or email me at wood4erd@gmail.com Woody
