Do they make a drop axle for my car and if so who? and where do i find one?. Or maybe drop spindles. The car is a 1947 ford coupe. I'm told it has a 50'' center to center king boss. thanks james:confused:

A Posies "in the dirt" kit will get you a 5" drop.

Speedway has them in 4" and 6", with plain, chrome or stainless finish. Call 'em and talk to order department for specifics. 800 979 0122 or: speedwaymotors.com

'where do I find it?'. Nearly all street rod/pre-49 hot rod magazines are replete with all the advertising a reader can stand. You should be perusing those sources for ideas and parts anyway.

"Dropped spindles" wouldn't really be applicable to you situation, but dropped steering arms would. Several companies sell what you need, just as said above grab a magazine and look. The Posies kit is probably the easiest, but I think Ch***is Engineering also does the kit thing.

    Mounted a 5" axle on a 46 this summer.
The axle i had was almost 4" narrower tha the original axle.
and that was good since it made it possible to steer around corners.

Dont think you can find an dropped axel with original width.

I Did a 42 some years ago and got a 2 " in narrower axle with spring from Posie.
So contact them the know what works

If you are going to use the original Wishbone you need to do some cutting and welding.
Since the perchbolt narrower mounting on the 4" or 5" axle will push the axle forward.

Magnum Axle makes a dropped axle for your car and they are the only ones that offer an axle which fits the stock wishbones. I have used several of them and have been very pleased. Talk to Mike or Fred James at Magnum Axle. Google for their website.

Pewsplace is right,...use the Magnum Axel item. You can buy them almost anywhere. be sure to use the Magnum steering arms,....Other brands won't fit correctly. (I found out, the hard way!)

  14. X2, 2935ford. Pick up the phone and call Ken at Posies, great people. Got my whole front end from them, axle, spindles, 4 bar, steering arms, tie rod, drag link brakes and panhard bar, shocks, shock mounts and with a super slide spring for about 2 grand.

If a 4-5" drop axle is purchased what is needed to install it? I am also looking to lower a 47 2d sedan during the neverending winter months in Wisconsin...
