    Yup......next to the shifter!

  4. I have 'em in 2 of my cars because I drag 'em and it's per the rules.

However I don't like having 'em there because in the event of an accident they can become a "ballistic missile"!

Always. Had a bad crash with fire while racing years ago and was able to put myself out. Only lost half a beard, some hair and looked like a lobster for a couple of weeks. To this day, I think I would have died w/o an extinguisher

I think you can still get the halon but you have to go through aircraft supply places, expensive but how much is your car worth?

Fairlane club of America now requires all cars at any club meet or show have one sitting by the left front tire when parked.

Fire Chief told me 2 1/2 lb is barely adequate,He said the 1 1/2lb are always too small. 5lb would be better but too big for most cars.

I carry a First Alert extinguisher. My car is intact because one of these was in the car. A gasoline fire that was rapidly getting out of hand, the First Alert snuffed it out quite rapidly. The active ingredient is a liquid, left an oily residue, but not that tough to clean up. About like cleaning up a greasy engine compartment.

They are non refillable, spray can kind of thing, cost about fifteen bucks. Small, about as tall as a spray paint can, larger in diameter. Yes, a large extinguisher is best, but a small one can save your car. When I got the fire put out, there was still a significant amount of stuff still in the extinguisher.

My wife made me buy THREE of them after that incident!

Being without an extinguisher in a car is the same as being without one in your kitchen, your garage, your basement, etc.

There's just no reason to be without one and not a single post in this thread has suggested that you shouldn't have one.

I hear that "TUDOR" on here carry's one in the trunk of his 46, but right now its empty!

  23. I have one on the far left towards the door under the front seat in my shoebox. They gotta be close at hand. Fires are surprisingly quick to spread.

My company requires fire extinguisher training twice a year and after putting out more controlled fires then I can count, I would recommend a 5 pounder minimum, especially for an engine fire. Even our instructor states anything smaller is just a novelty. Buy a good refillable brand like Badger or Amerex. Halon is great for fires, in confined areas, but may not cool down a vehicle engine fire enough to prevent recombustion, so a CO2 may be more suited for the car, (This is what I was told so do your own research on this one) Of course, Halon is almost impossible to find anymore anyway. Good insurance is probably your best protection. Stay safe!

  28. Got one mounted in the trunk, when you travel all over, any place can be a bad place for a fire! VERY cheap insurance.:D

I have a link up here where you can still get the halons, I would use a halon and have a big dry chemical as a backup. If the halon puts it out, there's no mess to clean up. The halon is also best for under dash electrical fires, as it seeks out the fire.
