I have been using Herbert Cams for years. His son now moved the shop out to Chino. His name is Bruce and he too is chuck full of good engine information. I still have an old GMC 248 I built in the 60's that Chet helped me with. It is still in my family and running good. The products were built to last in my opinion.

    Hey Doug,
Since your Pop p***ed away are you still thinking of going for thr land speed record. I think I heard you and him were working on a viper powered machine. A few years ago your crew guys gave me,my brother, son and grandson a tour of your rig up at Maple Grove. After we were done you werenice to let my grandson sit in your dragster.I just want to say thanks,Bruce

  7. Hello Doug!

How's the restoration of your father's old Harley drag bike coming???

I was at Doug's NC shop back in July. He gave me the 50 cent tour of the operation, got to see his father's old Harley Nuckle drag bike and his Top Fueler as well as 1 of the engines out of the T.F. with 5 broken rods. We talked "shop" for a while, I turned him onto a friend who's an antique Harley parts vendor and bought some stuff. It was a good time and Doug's a great guy.

Doug if you read this.... Thanks man!

Need some help here...not a thread hi-jacker, we just need our parts.

A few may know that Chet Herbert was closed down last summer. I need to know if someone can help me track Roy or someone down from that store may of come may of handled my pair of good 291 cores I had sent to the Chino store for regrinds back in June.

I had only discovered that it was closed when calling the number goes straight to NC! They put me on the horn with Bruce who had no help or info "you will get em when you get em, if we find em", and the counter help quotes they are only order takers, left messages with both him and Doug as Bruce said the parts may be in a shipment of **** from the closure and neither have gotten back after numerous calls and messages since reaching out in July.

Need help guys, talking to whomever may have been around the closure that can direct me. I have 2 project hemis coming out of machine and no cams. Talking to Nielson to get my projects moving, but we all know how hard good Desoto cores are to come by...gold!

PM me or not, someone is not making hotrodding cool over there!

  9. You should get in touch with John Partridge at Bullet Cams - he can probably make you a billet one that will be far better than a regrind. He made our first FlatCad cam - and it has ran extremely well. He also just made me a 8620 billet roller cam for my 392 Hemi - about $400 or so (very reasonable). He also makes the Ardun Hemi cams for Don Ferguson, etc, etc, etc..

I don't know if he has 291 cores, but maybe he can make them?

I sent a stock Harley Knuckle Head can to Chet Herbert in the mid seventies for a REGRIND. I had no faith in the ability to regrind a stock cam to get a better profile. I stamped my initials into the gear on my cam before sending it as it was NOS and I wanted my cam back. I sent it snail mail with a money order for the work as quoted in phone call and 3 weeks later it was in my mail box. It was the seventies man and he got it back to me in three weeks. I miked the cam compared to a stock profile and he had made some sutle changes to the ramping, cam centers, advance and lift. Long story short after installing it in my 80 inch Knuckle it really woke it up and it went like a scalded cat. Yes my initials were still in the cam. I allways remembered what a gentleman he was and the excellent service I received.

Yeah, Chet had always been helpful. Some of our coolest builds have had some of their old cams. And those guys were still really helpful with a friends record attempt a couple years ago. Don't know anything about the the NC store, looks like a PAW or something. nor WHO would know anything about a Desoto hemi grind over there. Someone closed that store down without consideration or even a call to any customers that may have parts they are waiting on. Ray gave me an ambitious 2 week turn around back in June (knowing a month is more reasonable) and that was the end of it...outside his control I'm sure, but may know how I can get some remedy here. Not interested in bad mouthing anyone, I just trying to find my parts and nobody is talking to us about locating them, more of a "it's your fault for sending them over there, that's why we closed it down" tone.

Chet was true and always helped the little guys as much as anyone else... a real shame.

I had a Chet herbert roller cam in my MG TD.
With help from Chet a few years ago, I am now producing roller cam kits for 1938-1954 T series MG's!
My 7th year of producing 5 different profiles.
