Decided to make myself a gear stick. Since I have a T56 transmission, the reverse locout is electrical operated. I wanted a ****on on the gear knob, and the stick itself a hole drilled flat piece of iron. And I have always liked the pistol grip grear knobs, so it had to be something like that. To route the wire nicely, I welded a thin pipe along the edge on the iron and grinded the weld down. This is how far I came tonight: When the first layer is dryed, I will rub the surface carefully with very fine grinding cloth before I apply one more layer. The grips appear a bit darker on the photo than they really are. The Mopar pistol grips are bended more forward than mine, but my gear stick will be a bit long. A forward bended grip wouldn't have made for a comfortable position.
Wow. That thing looks great! I'm looking forward to seeing a picture of it installed. And great idea on routing the wiring. Very slick.
The handles appear a bit darker on the photo than they really are. It will be the same color as on the steering wheel I made earlier.
You guy's that work in wood? If I cain't cut it with my plasma cutter and weld in with my tig I cain't do it. great talent. looks good.
It is really not that hard to do it. Birch is hard and stick good even across the fibres. Then it won't crack on the wrong places when you work on it. I make my own fire wood every year (don't have space to store it for more than one year at a time). I borrow a chain saw and a firewood divider from my father in law. The fire wood on the photo was taken aside to dry 5-6 years ago, because I noticed the beatiful "flame birch" as we call it, when the fibres go in waves like that. Make very nice knife handles as well.
