Hey guys, in the process of replacing the kingpins and I'm kind of stumped on the grease cap installation. Each end of the bracket from the spindle has the outer ends tapped in to hold the grease caps in place.
How do I go about getting the new caps in?- do I need to hammer them out then hammer them back in?

You remove the kingpin lock pin, drive a punch through the top cap, drive out the kingpin and lower cap, then knock out the top cap when the spindle is off. You just
pound new caps in the top and bottom after reinstalling the spindle and kingpin. The caps should be similar to concave "freeze" plugs.

Hey Rich, thanks for responding. What would be a good tool to use to hammer them in so I lessen the odds of ruining them?

Make sure you clean up staking around the recesses where the plugs fit when you have the spindles off. After ***embly, the new plugs should tap into place easily, maybe seat them with a socket, then stake around them like they were done originally.

Ok, so don't mess with the staked areas to smooth them out just retap them down tight against the new caps after I tap them past the staked area, correct?

Once they are apart you need to clean up the old staking around the recesses enough to permit the new plugs to fit. Once the spindle is reinstalled, tap in the new plugs and stake them in place as was done originally.

I understand ya now. Got online last night and learned exactly what staking means. I appreciate your help!
