I have 3 "brake wires" on my EZWiring kit but I have no idea what goes where as the instructions are kinda vague.

#1 a thicker wire that says "brake switch power" and it's orange
#2 a white wire that says "brake switch" (smaller gauge)
#2 another white "brake switch" wire with a clip on the end, this is bundled with the column wires so I know what to do with that one.

My brake switch is mounted on the engine side of the firewall and is a simple lever with two contacts. Does the white go on one side and the orange on the other? Does it matter what side each one goes?

I've tried to call the number on the instructions but I think I'll be dead and buried before someone actually answers a phone there.

    Thanks!

I would guess that the orange wire goes to one contact and the white goes to the other. Touch them together and see if your brake lights come on. If so, then that's it!

(Shouldn't matter which terminal on the switch you hook either wire to)

  3. There are 2 wires on the Switch, an orange and a white...

The one with the column connects to a wire in the column harness....

I just had that same problem! I'm pissed at EZ for having such a SHHHIIIIIIIIIITY wiring diagram with their kit. The product is OK, but the instructions **** *** unless you have a GM column that you can just plug in to.

I don't have turn signals, so I had to use the sends for the L and R turn signals for brake lights. Took me forever to get it right! The brake light circuit is integrated into the turn signal circuit and won't work unless the turn signals are all hooked up. If you touch the L and R signal wire to the Brake Power wire, you should get brake lights.

All in one bulb? Shouldn't be all in one, should have two wires. We're talking rear lights, right? One wire is brake and the other is tail lights. The light bulb has two filaments, the socket has two terminals.

If not, then someone replaced them because they come from the factory with dual filament sockets and bulbs.

The socket has two wires, one is turn/brake (brighter), the other is tail, and the socket grounds to the body.

The orange is probably input power to the switch, the first white wire is probably output power from the switch to the lights, and the column wire probably so when your headlights are turned on it supplies a limited amount of juice to the brake lights for running at night. Then the output voltage of the first white wire adds more power to the circuit making the brakes work brighter. Know what I mean?

You are kidding right? The orange is power from the fuse panel. the white feeds the turn signal switch. the turn signal switch feeds power to the brake and turn signal filament and the running light filament is fed from the light switch.

See if you can download the Painless wiring diagram from their site. the colors are the same - if you got the kit in color.

    Hope this helps- Reece

I just wired (2) cars w/ this same setup from EZ wire...

To wire the EZ wire kit:

First I want to add, the fuse block is some left over part from GM w/out the “snap in” base. I don’t like it, it’s a pain to mount….pure garbage…and its ugly. JMHO.

One white wire (without prong) goes to the brake light switch. You can put it to any of the 2 prongs…doesn’t matter. The orange wire goes to a constant power (light switch) or you can put it to the “On” side of the ignition switch. The other white wire goes to the turn signal switch….(to allow the flasher to operate the side needed for turn signal indication)

The second prong on your brake light switch connects to the lead that goes to the back of the car for the brake lights.

When you step on the pedal, power from the orange flows through the brake light switch (which is completing the circuit) and back to the lights. Brake lights on!

As for the White “turn signal lead” for the turn signal…cut off the GM connector and wire it in to you stock turn signal wires per your manual wire schematic.

    Hope this helps.

you know I might run the turn signal bulbs below the brake/light bulbs , in that slot for the back up lights cause I have one piece tail lights now not the stock half red half white. I wonder how that could work, if it would be safe and easier?
and I only had one white brake switch and one orange brake light switch so I hooked them up one to each side of the switch I dont think I missed seeing a second white brake switch wire?

This would work like normal...your brake light would only come on when you stepped on the brake pedal....a double filament bulb using the bright fillament. You could wire the parking lights w/ it too (to use low light filament.)

The turn signal would only operate the other bulb..separate wire from turn signal switch.

    Easy to do...and safe.

Here is a crude paint sketch- orange goes to one prong on brake light switch-white to other prong- white wire with connector in column bundle feeds brake light power to t/s switch. Take a look at a late 70's early 80's GM car diagram in a chilton s manual.

If the above didn't answer your question here goes.

    Orange into brake light switch
White out of brake light switch

White with clip into flasher/.turn signal ***embly.

There is only one white wire, you have both ends.

Thanks for all the replies. I pretty much figured that it would go as you've all said but the book with this thing ****s for sure so I wanted to double check.

This would not have been our first choice but we got a great deal on it. My dad uses Centech for his stuff, and since I didn't really have any wiring experience before this, the extra "thinking" on this one has been good for me.

  17. I just wired my coupe with a color coded EZ wiring kit. Ive never wired a car before so I was kinda dreading it...

The fuse box is too big and it wont allow mounting it flush with the firewall coz a ****load of wires come straight out the BACK of it preventing a close tidy mount to the firewall.

The instructions are **** too....but I managed to get around that too.

I bascially broke down the install into 3 sections - tail, dash, and front end. Did one at a time and made sure I had killer grounds....and ****** me....it all works !!

The only probs I had was the **** hyd brake lite switch that goes into the master cyl was a dud...replaced that with a mech one and had brake lites. The other was adapting the aftermarket turn sig switch to the GM wiring. Almost got it sorted though. Other than those...it was straightforward.

I think if you only use the instructions as a basic guide....its a good kit coz I paid **** all for it and everything works and works well.

I just wish it had a smaller fuse box....or maybe Im just a fussy bastad.

I ran across this page to help out those of you that may need a little help in wiring your cars. These pages are basic and pretty easy to understand. But if you can't figure it out take it to someone that does understand it.

" How To Wire your Street Rod Start to Finish " Has Gm, Ford and some after market wiring. Lights alt, reg, Gen.more. It may help someone out here.

    Good luck....H
