Okay, what have I done? Cut out the stock fuel feed, and welded the door shut. Going with a mustang tank. Also cut out more of the existing trunk floor. Looks a lot cleaner. Double checked my wheelbase and it was off. Guess my eyeballs are a bit off calibration. Need to adjust that. Also started sanding for the gas door and ended up doing nearly the entire rear quarter. Took the trim off, need to primer it. And, spend almost two hours cleaning my garage. A car, a bike, and another bike on a motorcycle lift, tools...it's a lot for a two car garage. Gotta maintain the upkeep. Anyways...I didn't really take too many pics, but the night ended like this-------->
Busy tonight. Tore into the new mastercylinder install. Couple pics. Still need to get the right hardware to install it. Should work nicely.
I got all new hardware, and installed the mastercylinder in the car. Pedals are hooked back up, and everything seems to working properly. Still need to get my brakelines run, and hooked up. Also just ordered new Mustang fuel tank and new T5 trans crossmember. Still have to figure out the best way to hookup e-brake. Any good ideas?
Okay, so it's been a productive couple of days. The garage is clean. Moved some stuff out, rearranged, put tools away. Much better now. Parts came in to do the new brake lines. Now, I have been dreading this I realized it was so badly needed. And I don't have the advantage of having the body off the frame. So I took the extra time to block the car up a little higher, and give myself enough room. When I started going, I really got into the flow of it. I installed the new m/c and did a little layout as to where everything was going to run. Bent up some lines, installed the 2 residual valves, ran one line to the rear with 18" braided line going to the rear axle. Also ran the front curcuit through a "T" and hooked a line back up to the drives side/front. Waiting on new crossmember to show up before bending up the passenger/front brake line. Also need to do a couple more things before yanking the rearend out and doing brake lines. Getting closer! I can almost see me cruising down the street.
Been productive. Double checked my wheelbase, made sure everything is square. Adjusted the 4 link, pinion, bags. Also did the brakelines on rearend. A quick coat of paint and she'll be ready to go back in in the morning. The mustang tank came the other day, so I fabbed up a craddle for it to sit in. Need to get some fuel line tomorrow and clips to run up to the engine. Pics are below.
Seem to be on a roll these last few days. Bought fittings and hose to run fuel line. All secured, but lack the engine bay side. Also removed the old e-brake. Will have to come up with something new and improved. Started removing trim pieces. Still have a couple left, but it's looking so much better already. Don't know which, if any, will go back on. Kinda thinking...none. White with black bumpers and emblems? Well, still want to get rid of a couple old brackets under the frame and paint the frame and notch area completely, before putting the rearend back in. I am dying to drive. At least take a trip around the block. Scrambling. Here's a couple pics.
that fuel is connected to the drain hole. the fuel delivery comes out of the rear center. it connects with the fuel sender. just incase you didn't know
Good lookin out. I learn something new everyday. Guess I should have looked inside that other little box. Would have saved me from seeing fuel spilling out all over my garage floor. Thanks.
Today I bought some shocks. Finally had taken the measurements, crossreferenced the Monroe shocks data chart, called the local parts store, and made some brackets to mount them. They are in about the only location to not interfere with the bags, or links, or bridge. In the pic, I haven't anchored the tops yet, but they are sitting at 30degrees. I'm not sure the best angle. What do you think?
54, I've been posting about a friends suspension problems, his coil overs are on a 30 degree and everyone is saying change to 20 degrees. I would change to 20, think it will ride better. my 2 cents.
I'll definetely bump them up to 20*, and mount some tabs. Thanks for the advice, oldman. Also, I just got my new trans crossmember in yesterday. Ordered from Hotrod Works, and it looks beautiful. The pic below is one I stole from their website. Will take my own pics as I put it in. Should be nice, and I'll be able to mount my e-brake linkage to it and be done with that part. I am getting anxious to drive this ol' girl. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel...at least to a driving condition. I just keep chug, chug, chugging along.
Her birthday...and it's not going to happen by then. Trying to make it ready for the LSRU in April. We'll see how I do.
So, I got the trans-crossmember installed. Need to take a couple pics. Had to make a relief area for the bottom of the new mastercylinder. And still have to bend up another section of brake line. The shocks got finished mounting. Need to remove axle and finish weld it and paint...and grind off a little to make more room for a slight travel interference. Seems to stiffen up the rear from my 'jump on the bumper' test. Also have been removing trim, piece by piece. Pain in the ass. Filling in holes for trim along top of windows. The trim on the front and rear windows...does that just pop off? I haven't dug into it yet. Just trying to get the body ready for a quick coat of primer. Button up the rear and we should be atleast driving around the block. Which would be a nice step to get to.
Wow, I just realized how much I haven't gotten done in the last 6 weeks. Life is really getting in the way of getting this car on the road. But not to fret, I've got a lot of things going on in my head. Just need to get out in the garage and do something. Would be nice if it was a bit warmer, but what are you gonna do? Need to pull the rear end to finish welding and clearance a few parts. Paint and reinstall with proper hardware. Also need to get fitting for the airbags and have everything ready for when I buy the air tank, valves, etc. Also need to redo one of my brake hardlines from the mastercylinder. When I installed the new crossmember, I created a slight conflict. And have to run the front/passenger side still. Now if only I had the time to make it out there.
Wow, has it really been 10.5 months since I have posted anything? Guess life has gotten in the way. Really been doing a lot on the car in the last few weeks. Stripped paint, pulled all the glass, tons of little items, pulled front fenders off. Need to make radiator support, alter a few other things. And paint this thing!!! Bumpers, emblems, trim pieces, grill, steering wheel. All boxed up ready to get blasted. Also need to finish up a few front suspension items. Really should be doing the bags right now, too. Money, money, money is all I need.
Glad you got us up to date, looks like lots of good progress since you last checked in. Come spring, you'll be cruisin' Congress.
