If it was mine I would be looking for about a 600 cfm carb, no bigger than 650, and no less than about 5oo cfm.

Brand? there are a few good brands out there....

It depends on what the car will be used for. If we ***ume it will be street driven, a small 500 CFM will give the best low RPM throttle response. I like the Edelbrock 500 carb on a 180 degree four barrel intake with at least a half inch insulating spacer to help keep it cool. This should work with a stick or an autobox. A 600 Edelbrock or Holley will work, but the crispness is not there down below 2500 RPM where the car is driven on the streeet. A single plane intake works good at very high RPM. Not so hot on the street.

  4. Actually the intake mentioned is going to want a 700-750 cfm carb. It will not perform well with a 302 with an RV cam, if you don't keep the plenum full of iar it will perform even worse.

Get your self a weiand stealth (dual plane) and run a Holley 1850, 650 CFM Vac secondaries. It will perform just fine and won't pull any more air than it needs. Set it and forget it.

it will be street, so i should try dual plane. theres two for sale locally around here, one torker single plane and one performer, the torker is 80 and the performer is 100 thats why i opted for the single lol

Yup, the Torker is a bad compromise type of intake...not good for much.

now if i get the performer intake, what carb would be a good set up for that?

  11. The one I mentioned will do you fine and look good while you are doing it. Very Ford looking carb. Funny isn't it that Chevy guys like myself use Ford looking carbs. :D:D

1.08" Autolite 4100 4 barrel. On a SBF, there is nothing like it.

    A 600 cfm Holley List-1850...
I ran one with a Performer on a stock '88 5.0L HO with the EFI removed... Ran great after I dialed in the carb... 23 inches of vacuum @ 700 rpm and it also idled at 300 rpm... :)

i have the performer 500 CFM on my 302/shoebox combo and it is perfect. The 302 is a late 60's engine with iron heads and a little cam in it with BBK mustang fox body headers. pretty much stock non roller 302.

  16. I have used their electric chok for years and never had a problem with it. One wire hookup. But the manual is also an option. Does you car already have a choke cable? If it does go manual, if not go electric.

it had a heat riser of the exhaust manifold.

  18. Electric choke block, the heat riser.

My old chevys even in the coldest weather around here I get in stroke it once and hit the key. It lights, and I walk back inside and have a smoke and ot a cup of coffee while it warms up. I can take right off as a rule but I like my oil to get a little heat in it. I don't suppose it gets below zero much where you are at.

What trans are you running? The C4 and possible the cruise-o-matic have a kick down rod that seems to be a problem with some of the Holleys.
I am no expert and would like others input on this as well.
If you are running a C4 you will need to purchase special bracket and or a Lokar cable.

although I like the Edelbrock carbs and prefer them on my chevy, A Holley 600 with the Performer intake IMO would be a great combo on a 302. I've been around a bunch of Fords with that combo and they always seemed to work really well after they were fine tuned.

I'm running a Edelbrock 600 #1405 on my 289 (bored/stroked to 308) and have an old school Torker 289 single plane, 1" phenolic spacer, long tubes, block zero decked, ported GT40, milled, w/roller rockers, and a bunch of other stuff....

The 1405 carb starts and runs great right out of the box. I was worried about the single plane intake but the Torker is a great intake...engine lights off instantly, real crisp running.... the 1405 is the manual choke version, and is factory jetted a little more rich than the 1406... for my car it was perfect...

    0-1850SA 600 Holley.
    Brand new in the box.

Best bang for the buck and has the Ford auto trans kick down lever installed.

  27. Yes get the electric choke. If you are buying new be sure and get the Ford specific carb so you don't have to deal with a bunch of BS when it comes time to hook your ****** up.

I only run manual chokes on my cars...I like the ability to control it, and I don't have to mess with heat risers, etc.

Once you start using it, you will grow accustomed to it...
