General question. Where do you buy your new build and performance parts from? At a retail speed shop or on the internet? Places like Summit or Jegs or maybe one of the smaller specialty web stores. I am doing a little market research and just want to reach out to our community to help me with the project. Thank you

Local O'Reilly if I can. Then depending on what the part is, Speedway, Summit, Jeggs, or a Y block supplier. Illinois residents now have to keep track of what we buy so we can pay state tax on it. If we dont keep track, the state will tell us what to pay, and they seem to estimate very high.

  7. I try to buy local to support my local parts guy whenever I can. Rockauto.com has really good prices and beat my local guy even when you factor in the shipping. I've used Speedway, Jegs, Summit, ect. and have no complaints. Todd

Everything comes in from OS, cut out the middle man so they say. No alternatives given the distance; whoever provides the best part at the best price when I can afford it as everything has to be freighted here. Not a cheap exercise. Evilbay is good for those hard to get NOS parts.

For OEM type parts, the local NAPA store. For hot rod parts, usually Speedway Motors or Summit. For parts specific to my Model A body, Mike's Affordable or Mac's.

I always try to buy local when I can but there are no real "speed" shops around here anymore. Otherwise it's Rock Auto, Summit & Jegs.

Thanks guys. Great info for my project and I fixed the "but" to "buy". Now you know why I work with numbers and not words.

BTW: Rockauto is outstanding on price, quality and delivery. I am putting the 64 Marauder back together and bought just about all the hard parts from them. All were top brand name parts at jobber or better pricing.

    I will post pictures soon.

Rock Auto shipping is a killer IMHO. I can buy from my local NAPA, Federated or Bumper to Bumper and beat their delivered price every time (unless it's a closeout).

I buy most of my stuff at swap meets, on the HAMB eBay or the local old car junkyards. I just found a guy who has over 225 cars to dispose of and he's parting them out at good prices.

I don't buy from Speedy Bill... quality is a ****shoot.

You have to shop around . I will tell you that I have learned to make offers on Ebay even if it is not offered. I just bought a $426 Mcleod throwout bearing for $299 shipped because I noticed a Xmas special on another part number and offered my price on the one I needed.

No speed shops in my area. I don't buy anything made in China by small children. I only use OEM parts, at least you know they will fit. Bought lots of stuff off eBay that I couldn't find elsewhere.
