I have had three or four over the years.
A lot of times that model was a 2 wheel drive. They usually had a four cylinder Flathead engine w/3 on the tree, (newer ones got the "L" head, that looks like an overhead valve engine) and were very reliable, but not fast or torque monsters. Had real high rear/front ends in the 4x4's...(I think maybe 5.38's)
Real cool for making a neat ride today, with a V-8, and lowered....
    Is yours a 4x4?
    Windows or full side panels?
If you go V-8 and it is 4x4, the weak link is the drive shafts.
A '48 should still have the flat front grille, not one coming to a "V".
    Any pictures??
    Good luck, and cheers.....

  4. yeah pics please... and it sounds hamb worthy, lets see it

JMHO, but I would make that trade, ***uming the pick up is decent...
Nothing special you have there that I am aware of....
Looks like an old CJ2 or so that has been cut up and the top added....If I were to keep that, I would ditch the top, and if the motor runs good, lower it way down, then enjoy....
But you need to find out what rear end is in it, as if it is the original, it will scream rpm's at highway speed.
    Good luck!
    Cheers......
PS...this is what I thought you had...

    Hey Stewed,
I was killing time today..(Yep I am retired) and got to looking for DJ Jeeps just to re educate myself, as it has been a long time since my Willys days...
If the one you are looking at is on Craigs List in NC...I would p*** on it...(No ***le, and just pretty much junk)
Here is a site with lots of other jeeps, and many are a good buy IMHO..
    Just saying...
