Ok, I got a private message from a fella here on the forum who told me his club has already started the process with a local armory here in Jersey to set up a invitational rod and kustom show, and he is waiting to hear back from them..I certainly don't want to step on anyones toes here..I offered up my help to him and told him I'm not interested in being the "guy" who needs to run this, rather, I'm just interested in seeing it happen, and I'd do whatever he asked of me to help make this thing a reality..I'm still waiting to hear back, so I'm in a holding pattern right now...

    Stay tuned, hopefully...

That'd be cool! Outside parking is a good idea. I'd try and bring my Merc but not park too close to a dumpster, the sanitation company might get confused!

Well guys, " the cat is out of the bag" a little early. There is a newly formed loosely knit "club" that is a mix of "Young guns" and "old salts" that held a meeting a week or two ago. The topic of a show of this type came up, and the older guys immediately harked back to the Autorama, that was annually held at the Teaneck Armory, where they also held Indoor Midget racing BTW. This was "The Show" back in the day, with only the "creme de le creme" so to speak invited to be on the show floor. So the thought process discussed was to attempt to recreate this, but in the Winter of 2012/2013, so as to not conflict with established outdoor shows, and to provide something on the East Coast that would rival the GNRS, and Detroit Autorama, but on a smaller scale. There are enough truly great cars, up and down the region that a committee would be set up to extend invitations, to the best, keeping in mind what you all would like to marvel at. Preliminary contact has been made, and when we know more, we'll make you aware ASAP. Whaddayathink? Please look at the Ad that Slim posted, and be mindful of the wording, indicating that all these years later this was the area "show of shows." Maybe further discussion at Toys for Tots this Sunday, your thoughts?

Think Angel hair, mirrors, stanchions, chrome lug wrenches, painted accessories, i.e. gas, oil, water cans, display boards, etc. A hark back in time to the 50-60's!

I thought that an update was appropriate, on this. We began to try to get the Teaneck Armory, but the entire floor, is now covered by "Field Turf", and used by an indoor Soccer Club. The cost to take up the Turf is prohibitive, so at the suggestion of an NG employee there, he thought we should contact the main NG office, in Trenton for help. We've done that, and they suggested the Morristown Armory, so we began the process with them. Got a quote the other day, very expensive! I know what the Jalopyrama, in Md. costs, for Mike, and I was very surprised that NJ was not as kind to us. Please let us know your thoughts, or if anyone has a "in" at a venue. Best, Big John

The NJ Street Rod club here used to do one in the Westfield Armory, every year. I don't know if they still rent it out, but the rodders haven't done one there in 10-12 years. Not a big place, so maybe it's less expensive?

Hey mark, I've been in talks with Vic Collins regarding this for a while now, and Westfield is one that we're looking into...stay tuned, this is far from dead...

  15. The elephant in the room is always, are the finances in place to promote and provide the security that these venues may require? Lots of hoops to jump through and each one takes cash. Posting bonds, Dealing with unions, vendor questions, advertising, funds, personnel.

I'm live in Westfield, grew up here in fact, the Armory is a good spot but parking can be tough. The other option is the south side train station the Chamber of Commerce organizes a lot of events in town especially at the train station.

PM me if you me to help out.

Me too. I have a restored gasser that raced at the Jersey tracks alot in the 60's. I'd be interested as long as it doesn't conflict with our racing schedule.

Just an FYI, for all, in looking into this with the National Guard in Trenton, we got a firm quote for Morristown Armory, for $8400, with a Fri. A.M. load in, and Sun. Aft. load out, show Fri. Night, Sat., and Sun. til 3P.M.That was just for the building and the "Attendent" have to factor in Insurance, Promotion, etc. Still would like this to fly, in the way described as a "Best of the Best" type deal, but the financial nut is burdensome, even with multiple people sharing "the load". Your thoughts?
