Does anyone in Indy have a decent easy out for a 1/2 - 20 thread crank bolt. I was setting up the harmonic balancer install tool from autozone. and the POS snapped off and I didnt even crank it down (flush with the nose of the crank). I can see why from the design, but the fookers down at AutoZone tell me to pound sand and that tools break all the time. I have done this many times before and have been a mechanic for 10+ years and have never seen a tool do this before. I wouldn't be posting this if this was user error because it would be embar***ing. I am really pissed off right now, not just at the cheapness of the tool, but the snide comments from the manager down there. Anyone that has a decent easyout in the area please let me know.

Anyone else know where a decent harmonic balancer install tool can be purchased?

Never had a problem with the other stores (you know the green one, the red and checkers one, or the blue and gold) Instead of going to the zone I would try those guys out

Try drilling it with a left handed bit first, you might get lucky.

A trick from da tinman... center a fender washer over the bolt and tack through the center hole. Then tack a hex nut to the washer and back out the bolt.

I'm not too far from you. Are you able to transport the engine?? You could take it to my son's fab shop in Beech Grove. He is very good at getting broken bolts out. Usually tigs something to it and turns it out. PM me if we can help you out. Dave

My old 85 year old mechanic has saved my behind many times....he took a sharp pointed punch and just drove the last one out that way...just drive it to your left.

Damn, and they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, filed these away. Great tips.
