Somewhat correct. When the Model A was introduced in late '27 the service brakes and the emergency brakes were the same and the E-brake handle was on the left, right along the kickpanel. In May/June of '28 some state enacted a law requiring separate service and e-brakes which necessitated a change to the system. At this point, the e-brake handle was moved to the center of the car in front of the shift tower. Somewhere in '29 the handle was moved a final time to the right side of the shift tower.

My vote is to get it running and drive it as is.

Tim, After some research I believe you are right, so that is not a correct way of determining a 28 from a 29 with handbrake handle. Another oddity is the single tail light on a 28 is on a bracket and the 29 is bolted to fender. But even this is not true in some cases. Another possible clue for me is it has a matching set of 1928 Ontario licence plates attached to it.

Do you know the engine number?

Also, on the firewall there may be a date stamped. Some of the gastanks had a date stamped on them on the driver's side. It might be hard to read or find if it has been repainted and they didn't all have them but they are there.

This site has more info on it http://www.plucks329s.org/studies/studies_firewall.html

There is some argument as to when the date was stamped; some say it was when the tank was built, others when the body was matched to a tank or some think it is the date that the car was built. I believe it is the date the tank was built.

If you have pictures of the engine compartment, that can help narrow down a date too.

    Thanks

    Sorry, a few other observations.

Was it originally blue in color?

The headlights have obviously been converted to sealed beams and the horn is not original.

The driver's rear bumper clamp is Canadian.

It appears like it has some sort of accessory rod attached to the starter pedal.

    It is a cool car.

Tim, Yes the original blue colour is visible beneath the black peeling paint. I saw the rod too, but have not checked it out yet. Is the heater out of a later model Ford?? Larry

Your car, your choice......but since you're asking, I'd probably get it running and drive it as is for a bit while you make some critical decisions. Maybe some conservative modifications as time passes, but I'd try to resist the temptation to move drastically too quickly.

Very nice tudor, I like the idea of just getting it running. Then drop it, add some 35 wires or 40 steelies with some firestones and add things to bring it up to date. 39 trannies behind those bangers really make them more fun to drive. Some speed equipment, oh yeah!

  15. Another vote for getting it running and driving. Big and littles with a slight rake would be the farthest I'd go. I'm all for keeping something that survived that long as original as possible, but make it your own. It is a 1929.

What a great find! I'd get it up and running, then deside if you want to upgrade things. A full fendered 28-29 Tudor is a great looking car, just look at the photos that have been posted . WTSHN , Welcome to the HAMB, I've enjoyed your posts on The Ford Barn, lots of A stuff hear as well. Bob

  17. I like the way the car looks just sitting in the garage with the two spare tires sitting right in front of the radiator. To me, I can just picture a really shitty country road, early 1930's, and a young man who found out the hard way that you never leave home unprepared.

That one needs to become a hot rod. Sometimes one of these is so mint and has survived for so long that it is almost sacreligious to change a thing on them. But while this one is very nice, it is not mint in all respects, so making it into a hot rod wouldn't be a bad thing to do. I don't mean that to be anything but a compliment, I would die to have one that nice to start with.:)

Nice find but barns are buildings where farm animals live, eat sleep and shit a lot. Maybe "shed find" would be a better term.
