We finally got the front wheels/tires straightened out on the '55, but were still stuck on the rears. Its radiused, so if the wheels are too small, they'll get lost in there. Would 15x8 Chrome Reverses on cheater slicks work, or would they not have done that in the early '60s? Thanks, -Dean
Regardless of how they did it back then, i'd find a size that fit's the wheel wells and looks right to you. If it were mine, i'd want the tire to be about even with the quarter panel, or have the 'bulge' of the sidewall just outside of it. The only reason i say not too far out is when you decide 'play' and tromp the gas..you run the risk of stuffing the quarter into the tire..at least it's a possibility. I don't think a 15x8 would be too much...i have 15x8 torque thrust's under the back of my 57, and it's got stock quarters.. But thats all just my own oppinion.
I'd think that 6 to 7" wide would be the width-"in the day".......but after drivin my roadster in the rain a while back with 5:10 and 6.00 16's respectively-Id say go with the 8"er......
if your looking for chrome reversed wheels be sure to check out Pete Paulsen. http://www.petepaulsen.com/ I bought some raw reversed wheels from him and had a really good experience. just thought I'd pass this on..
I had period correct reverse chrome wheels made 15 x 7 and 15 x 8 for my Fifty4 Ford. They're being plated now, I post pics when they come back. KK
