Can anyone give me some suggestions or photos for placement of a battery for in my 29 A closed cab pickup. Thought about putting it in the bed but i dont wanna draw attention to something like a battery. I dont have room under the seat either. Any suggestions would be much appriciated.
My battery in my 36 lives in an antique beer cooler in the bed. Run the cables through the bottom of the cooler and everything is hidden. Its big enough for the battery and some left over space for some tools as well.
I had the same problem in my '34 International, which has a shortend bed. Finally installed it under the bed, behind the rear axle. Used a drop down box to remove battery from the rear of the truck and installed remote terminals at the rear of the bed to charge/jump battery. Kind of unhandy to get to, but keeps the bed and cab clear. Good luck!
You don't have any pictures from when you were setting this up do you? I can visualize how you did it, but want to see how it looks. Sounds like a slick fix.
I used my toolbox that I bought new 40 years ago. There is also some room for tools next to the battery. The two vent holes have since been covered by a old louvered speaker cover. I placed it on the p***enger side for weight balance.
Putting the battery in a box in the bed is not hiding it. It's cute, and maybe clever, but not hidden. You may not have room under the seat for a single 12 volt battery, but maybe 2 6 volt optima or other gel style battery wired in series. Many a space problem was solved that way. They fit in the strangest places.
It's not an early truck but I'm building a wood box with boat hardware that will set in across the front of the bed on the 48 this time around to hold the battery, tools and necessary spare fluids and cleaning supplies.
I installed my battery under the front of the bed and hinged the boards that covered the battery so I could access it from the top. I can still keep stuff in the bed and access the battery without crawling under the truck. Worked for me and I like the access available to the battery.
