Anyone stuffed a 348/409 W motor into an Chevy AD pickup? Looking for pics to see how it looked/fit. Trying to find something a little different than a SBC for an AD build I am planning.

    Thanks,

not that I have seen but that sounds pretty rad :)

  3. Do it! I've seen BBC's in AD's before, so I'm sure a "W" would fit!

Are you planning on using the stock steering?
It's a pretty tight fit with a small block

No, it will get switched out for an IFS setup. I drove an AD for several years with the stock suspension but I was much, much younger. This truck will be a daily driver slash parts chaser so I plan to put a lot of miles on it and my back will appreciate the softer ride.

My other choice would be a 302 Jimmy.

    Thanks,

I think that the only real problem might be clearing the stock steering or a bit of firewall clearance.

Yeah I like the idea too. Now I just need to lay my hands on a 348 truck motor to rebuild. Thanks for all the input.

    Thanks,

  12. I agree with the rest, great choice with a 348. 409 is too expensive and the 348 will have plenty of power.

I sold a 425/409 to a guy in the late 70's that put it in his 51 pickup. Steering box was the only issue regarding installation, but it had a traction problem when it was done.

Yeah, ADs are pretty light in the rear. I would probably go with a stockish rebuild if I use one.

louisb If you are serious about wanting a 348 check out Ocala Fla. craigslist just posted today and guy has some dual quad intakes to and a 409 but the 409 is kinda steep. Good luck.
