It's been lurking in the back of my melon for the last 5 years or so... I want a custom van.

Not a big tacky 81 Chev either... A screamin 60's Econoline with a set of 5 spokes an a wild paint job, lumpy cam and 4 pipes poppin' away underneath the doors.

I know where there is a 61? Ford Falcon van (pretty rare with windows all the way around like a wagon white with green scallops) but it's not for sale ):

Anyone else have this craving? Zombie must have been reading my mind...

I came across this website I though was pretty cool, lots of pics and info...

I thought you were talking about the shoe... :D

Neat concept pic. Not something they did back in the '50s bro, but still a kool thing. Vans had panel and lace jobs with Ansens and spoilers and heart shaped windows out back when they were popular...

I don't think there's anything wrong with givin it a 60's flare though... I think that van that Zombie drew up is pretty bad***

Looks cool mang! I say do it! I've thought of something like this too, but with gold flake and pearl white paint.

That, and the cut mirror, **** interior with swivel captains chairs and mini bar in the back.

I think those old boxes are pretty cool, and useful besides. The drawing definitely has a good look. They also are cool with a more commercial/industrial motif.

Having said that, the engineering to get that kind of stance might be more than a 15 minute job. Probably need to study the wheel arches and tubs, as well as consider a different method of front suspension (and probably steering) to make the whole deal sit like that. And please don't forget that the damn thing is a unibody.....extra degree-of-difficulty points there.

On a more positive note, I drove one of those mid-60s Ford vans with a 300 inch six to chase parts for my dad "back in the day." With a three speed, it would get out of its own way from a stoplight. Not that I would ever actually **** the headlights out of a new Cadillac, mind you.......

  14. I've been kicking that around myself for a few years, almost bought a '66 chevy last year. It is definantly on my list of vehicles I want to do.
I had a '66 chevy van when I was in high school, bed in the back, strip of mirror tiles on the ceiling, fake brick paneling on the walls and **** carpet on the floor, man was that fun, one time we were drivin' from party to party with a half full left over keg of beer from the party the night before!!! And parkin' with the girls, nothing better!!!

Early to mid 70's there was a San Gabriel Valley van club called the "Vanadicts". anyone remember them or belong?

I'd like a second gen Ford van. With no windows, short wheelbase, fire engine red with no graphics, chrome wheels and "wide ovals," and just the plain painted grill with shiny headlight doors. No at***ude adjustment. 351C power of course!

  16. Love em'. To get one all the way down, there's definitely some work involved, but they look *****en.

Prices are pretty reasonable on old vans, but that's going to change in the next two days because everyone here is going to look for them now :)

And yes, I too love the shoes. They should make more w/ black soles though for us greasy types. I kill the white ones in one garage outing :)

when I was 17, i bought a wrecked VW microbus. The one with the ragtop and little submarine windows in the roof, I completely restored the car. Painted it, built the motor, everything myself. The car was so nice that guys at work would introduce me to their hoodlum buddies so they wouldnt steal it. I loved that van. We would pile into it at 2 in the morning and drive up the coast to watch the sun come up. If we were out and we drank too much we would crash out in it. If I couldnt sneek my girlfriend into the house, I had someplace to go. Well they stole it. Found it a month later stripped in the riverbed. I really hate car thieves.

Ive been thinking about doing one of those half truck half vans. I dont know what they are called but theyre cool looking. I think Ford and Corvair made them. Maybe a little slice out of the roof. Something cool to haul parts in and hit Home Depot with.

Damn, you read my mind on that 60's styled van. Awesome!! I've been looking for a 61-67 Econoline panel or 62-68 Dodge A-100 panel for my store. Slammed with Radirs and WWW's, flaked roof, and the logo on the side. Oh HHHEEELLL yeah!

Want to find the drawing I saw in Hot Rod magazine of the Econoline done up g***er style. That was bad***.

Oh, and to add to the flair. HAMBer Haring drew this, I saved long time ago.

A '71 Ford van was my daily driver until recently, waiting for a re-do. Utilitarian and cool. Mine came from California, mettalic brown paint with orange **** carpet. I love that thing, kids see it and think its the Mystery Van. Scoobie Doobie Do. Anyone for a scooby snack? :D Chicks dig it.

I LOVE Econolines and have been looking for one for years. They're all on the west coast.

Haring had an awesome Falcon van. Ask him for pics

Old vans are cool. Here is Chopper Dave's from WCC. This is the 2005 Toy Fair van I did the graphics for. And the van from Paso.

I've been looking for a mid 60s chevy van myself. Of course a Ford or a Dodge would be fine as well. A van would fill my need of a good shop vehicle for my trophy shop as well as make a good cruiser for attending events and taking the girlfriend and her kids to the drive-In movies a couple times a month.

Hell, even down here I've been thinking the Van thing will come back around..... we had lots of Aussie Holden and Falcon Panel Vans (like the cars in Mad Max only like a cross between a wagon and a van), even Valiant in Aussie had on called appropriatly enough the Drifter.....
