Finally got some progress in. I chopped down the garnish moldings for the rear and quarter gl***. Also had to hone in my woodworking skills on t******* the wood down.

Here is the rear crossmember that has been reworked. I got some sheetmetal from a buddy's shop and made a floor. He bent up the box for me for the cap.
I got a little excited and warped the **** out of it at the top, oh well.

    Hey Joe,

Just found this thread and I'm loving the work you're doing. I too have just got hold of a stock 30 A and plan to run my 312 Y block in it too.
Your chop and stance is bang on the look I want to achieve to.

When your on a good thing, stick to it!

Very cool build, the rod is looking great. One question, how are you gonna handle the vin number since the number is location on the original frame rail? If you sell the frame, the number can't be used by the buyer since you are using it on your car. Will you have the number transferred to the body or new '32 frame?

I will transfer it to the new frame, thus rendering the Vin useless on the old frame. If that proves to be a problem I can have it ***led as a 30 ford but have a state issued "***igned" Vin number. That ***igned number comes on a state of Oregon sticker that you put in the drivers side inside door jamb. That is actually how my tudor is ***led.

Well my order from Mac's showed up on friday. I have the templates for the gl*** done, I just need to confirm the fit with the rubber seal that surrounds the quarter and rear gl***. Then I can have that cut.

What do you guys think on recessing the license plate? I will be running the aftermarket 50 pontiac style lights from Speedway.

Who do you have cutting your gl***? I have a guy that does a nice job and he's very reasonable. He did the gl*** in my coupe and it came out great.

I don't know about te recessed plate, but that's just me.

[Down the street from my shop is Todds Auto Body, he does off topic type restoration and late model collision repair. Anyhow he does gl*** as well. He is a great guy, not the cheapest, but the quality is there and he has been a customer of mine for quite a while.

I am not sold on the license plate thing, just a thought.

Jake, are you still running the stock tank, and also did you relocate your battery? I just cant stand the terdball battery hanging down. I have a rumble seat so putting it there is out.

I have a friend that used a 6 volt Optima turned on its side in the stock location to keep it from hanging down. I have yet to see it in person but it should work in theory. As for the recessed plate, I vote a big NO.....if my vote counts for anything. The coupe is looking good Joe.

    Yes Mitch it counts!

I have two of those batteries in the shop, I was thinking since the car is 12V of wiring them in series and laying them under the seat. I am not 100 percent sure though.

BTW, you're up kinda late aren't you!

I'm still running the stock tank and stock battery location. My coupe is running aprons though so it hides the battery well.

Somewheres around 2005 we went over there and met up with the drifters and met at a park for a picnic. So maybe!

Off topic, but where did your screen name come from.
We named our daughter Hattie, she just turned 1.

    Made some more progress.
I radiused the the bottom hole for the steering box and the hole for the sector shaft so I could drop the column. I dropped it an inch and three quarters at the column support.

I also dropped off the templates for getting the gl*** done.

I tried to use the stock seat, pushed back all the way and I have the leg room. I just don't have the head room with the 4 inch chop and me being 6 foot tall. I even zip tied the coils in in the seat bottom to "thin" the seat but it ain't gonna fly.

I picked up a van seat today.

For those running the van seats, did you get rid of the stock seat riser, remount it or leave it as is and just mount the seat further back on the riser?

If you are shopping for a battery, check out the Odyssey PC 680. Tiny 12v battery, can be mounted any way except upside down. I am using one on my SBC.

    Well made more progress today.

The steering column is dropped 2 inches at the mount, made a huge difference at the wheel end and with visibility.

I tried hard to use the stock seat and push it back all the way.
I had the leg room but no head room, at all.
I even went as far as to wire tie all the spring gs to flatten the bottom out. That didn't work.

So, alas the caravan seat. Its perfect and seems to be very comfortable. I have it lined up even with the from of the riser with a 1 inch rise at the front. The angle of the dangle is dead on.
I am 6 foot and 215. I have all the leg room I could ask for and will only loose about an inch out of the package tray.

I also have about 3 1/2 inchs of head room.

The car is coming along so sweet, I couldn't be happier.

Well, with five kids and one on the way my plans for the 32 railed ch***is and the 312 Y block will probably be pushed a couple years.

So what the heck, I ordered an aluminum downdraft intake, rebuilt the nicest original 97 I have seen, and ordered a one off Header from Matt at Lakeheaders.com.

I figure I can hop the banger up, all externally, and have a little fun with that for the time being.

I got all my gl*** back, I just need to seal where everything is welded and then put the felts and gl*** in.

It has a 12v alternator on it that Myke keeps busting my balls on. So I know I need to get a generator or at least something a little cooler, order and install headlights, the mounts and upper shock mounts, and finish flaring a few brake lines.

    Hey Joe,

Summit Racing has these in stock. Seriously though, I'm glad that you're going to play with the 4 cylinder. Now I'll have somebody else to keep me company in the back of the pack.

I got all the lines done and I am really happy about that. I think they look great and should work well. I used a hydraulic hand operated flaring tool. It sure made it easy.

  27. Banjos are so pretty aren't they? Those lines look nice.

I bought the License plate light/mount from Bob Drake along with their 1" shorter than stock F1 front shock mounts. Ordered them yesterday at lunch and got them today. Couldn't be happier with their customer service or quality.

I got the plate mount located and that allowed me to proportionally mount the tailights.

As far as the shock mounts. As the pic shows, the first one I heated and bent, I got too far in the center and not out on the end. In effect it shortened the overall length too much. I set that one aside and took the other one and bent out just the end, worked much better.

You can see in one of the pics, the mounting holes will go on each side of the brakeline where it goes thru the frame. This will give me a shock distance of 13.5" eye to eye on the ground.

Right, wrong, or indifferent, that's how I did it.

Yes the "double gloves" where necessary, those babies were hot!

I also ordered up a pair of the OTC Guide style lights from Socal in Sacremento.

Got a 5% discount for being an Alliance Member as well.

Cut the stock light bar down and are going to mount the pads to the top of the frame with two bolts and have the arm heated out and curve away from the grill shell to hold the headlight, it'll take some heat but should work.

Have you guys found that surface mounting the mount to the top of the frame is stout enough? Alot of the aftermarket ones mount on the top and side of the frame. I was going to flat washer, lock washer, nut it on the inside of the frame.

    Thanks guys

Well I've made some pretty good progress.

    The 97 Stromberg is rebuilt.
The custom header from Matt got beat to he'll by ups so he's working on another one.
The otb lights are mounted using the modified ends of the stock headlight bar.
The rear lights and taillight mount is done.
Front shock mounts are done, modified upper F1 mounts and modified lower perch mounts.
The simmons super power head is cleaned up, resurfaced and torqued down.
The FS ignitions distributor is in and ready to be wired.

I am waiting to come up with a generator now, do a little more wiring and I should be close.
