my king pins on the 57 chevy pu are seized. whats the easiest and best ways to get these suckers free and able to twist like they should?

hopefully tomorrow i will have time to take the wheels off and tear these king pins down. gonna soak them with some chain oil and spray nut buster on some parts to give me some advantage.

let me know how you guys would attack this situation. what problems can i run into that can be avoided or cause things to break. thanks guys.

On my Plymouth I took out the grease fittings and dug out the old grease which was solidified with a small screw driver and sprayed WD40 into the hole. Then I kept working it and repeating the process.

  3. heat and a 4 pound hammer are your friend. Get the axle against something that won't move get then hot and larrup the hell out of them (hammer and punch). Your only shot is to drive it out. you will have to replace the king pin and bushings.

You may free them up with some knocker loose or other penetrating oil and might even get them to take greas but once siezed you can just about bet they are shot.

Oh don't heat the king pin heat the metal around it.

  8. I've done it more than once. Penetrating spray and a king pin press, set the press and turn the screw untill you can't and let it sit. It will loosen up so you can press them out. Whacking on them with a hammer is how you bend and break things, been there, done that. Slow and easy does it.
