On motorcycles you can get "throttle locks" that lock the throttle in place. It isn't speed dependent, just throttle position. Do they make anything like that for cars that have a brake away for when you hit the brake.

I'm not sure where I'd hide the boxes at in the engine bay, nor do I want to have a plastic electronic panel in my car that doesn't look close to right.

I was thinking manual choke cable with a lock, but I don't like the idea of it not disengaging with the brakes.

    I've never heard of one.

You can use your own switches with most aftermarket cruise controls.

Some Old Fj40 Landcruisers have a knob on the dash that you can turn for cruise control. it is really for off roading so you don't have to worry about the throttle. I have used that function as a "cruise control" but only on long stretches of highway. It doesn't have the brake cut off function you are looking for but it would be easily adapted to any dash and could look traditional.

  4. A purely mechanical cruise wouldn't change speeds on it's own on the road.

I'm looking at it for highway cruising where it'd be fine for the most part. It isn't hilly out here in Oklahoma.

Seen them, but not with a brake release.

  7. My 1965 Buick 225 had the best damn cruise I've ever owned. It ran off the speedometer. I could roll the second needle on the speedometer between 30 and 90 and it would keep that speed till you touched the brake or shut it off
two things that made it great was it would hold that speed even down shift and kick in the 4 barrel if needed.
driving cross county coming into different speed zones just roll the needle to 45 then back to 75 without ever touching the gas pedal.

another perk was the switch pitch turbo 400 transmission. when you jumped on it the convertor shifted, the p***ing gear kicked in along with the four barrel for a terrific p***ing expierence. the only car that was better was the 65 Riveria with the same set up plus the 425 nailhead with two 4 barrels

A lot of old cars had twist lock manual throttle and choke cables on the dash. But I'd like to have a modern unit (a Rosta unit under the dash where you can't see it) so it disengages when you hit the brakes! Gary
