Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Al T, Jun 8, 2005.

  1. Where can I pick up a nice set of lake pipes for my 57 Skyliner?

    Thanks.

  5. How's the quality of their pipes? Are they chrome plated or stainless?

    Thanks for the info.

For the 50's styling I personally prefer the 1-3/4" pipes vs. the 2" pipes. Bought mine from Death Row Products (Company that bought out Butch's Rod Shop.) http://www.butchsrodshop.com

Catalog I have shows 73" long @ $129.99, 81" long @ $139.99 and 84" extra long @ $149.99 all include BRS labeled polished caps. Other caps available from $16.99 to $25.99 a pair Set of chrome hangers are $20.99 for a set of 4 for the 1-3/4" pipes.

I think you are going to get better quality chrome from an imported product (which is what most places sell). They still get to use the bad chemicals that are banned here. Its the prep work that makes the chome look good so if you can pick your set, thats the way to go.

With basic welding skills, they are not that complicated to make. You can go down to a muffler shop and have them put 2 bends in a length of pipe. or buy some U bends and a length of pipe and weld them up yourself. Then you have to find a good chrome shop. Something I havent been able to do where I live.

I buddy of mine picked up a set of rippled ones at a swap meet a couple of years ago but I dont know if they still make them. I think I remember someone who made their own from flexible exhaust tubing (which is rippled) with ends welded on then chromed.
