Ordered Cragars....got the wrong wheel

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 64Cyclone, Dec 17, 2011.

  1. I don't think the OP is the one creating the drama here ...

He is simply stating that he did not get the wheel he thought he ordered because there is (apparently) a mistake in the Jegs catalogue with the picture shown not matching the part # below the picture ... "so can I get some opinions on the wheel I did get compared to the wheel I thought I was going to get".

In my opinion (which ain't worth "poopie" here) he has every right to request (demand?) an exchange if there is indeed a mistake in their catalogue that could easily cause someone to order the wrong wheels.

What the hell, is there a full moon out tonight or is everyone here in need of a Midol and a nap?

Thanks. I do want the all aluminum ones, unless somebody chimes in and says they are junky off shore stuff. I've searched quite a bit on the internet and can't find much info on the new Cragars. Much less pictures...all I see are stock pics from Cragar.

  4. Regarding "junky offshore" stuff. I emailed Cragar directly and they did not initally answer my request regarding "country of origin" and the Eliminator wheels. I then sent off a second email stating "I will****ume from your silence that these are indeed made in China" ... at that point I did get a reply stating that "in order to put food on our table we have no choice but to have them made in Asia".

I'd check with Cragar if being made in "Asia" is an issue with you, just to verify.

I was gonna say look around the shops in your town to see if you can find the Cragars you want and see where they are made, but we both know that it seems you can only find 22"+ DUBs in Clarksville.

Well you get the idea. Aluminum wheels are usually salvageable......chrome not so much.

Come on, dude. Like anything else, they'll last as long as you care for them. The one in that pic looks like it's been in a salvage yard for a LONG time. If you know how to care for wheels, salvagable never enters the picture.

Lol tfeverfred....you know what I mean.

Now that I've had a few beers, I'm looking at these things wondering how in the hell they weld a steel rim to an aluminum center??? Does Cragar employee wizards?

From an old school approach, the pics in 42 and 43...the all aluminum rim looks too thick and "clunky". Back in the day, the cheaper mags had clunky looking outer rims...just like those do. It just does not look as classy as the chromed steel rim.

    so there :D

When the spoked part of the wheel is made, it includes a ferrous metal block that is cast right into the spoke; that is what the steel rim is welded to. I'm liking the one piece construction, but have'nt actually seen any, just pictures. I also like the direct bolt on rims, not the universal-unilug-unicrap stuff. Butch/56sedandelivery.

Wow, I just placed an order last week from Jegs, couple hrs later I rememberd a couple things I forgot and called them back. They said they couldn't add to the orginal order since it was already being processed, but would gladly submit my new order and wave the shipping/handling fees. They sure treated me right.

It's all about attitude. If he admits the mistake with whom ever he talks to Monday, I'm betting they'll take care of it. In this economy, pleasing a reasonable request is nothing but good business. It's become a buyers market.

Here is a piece of useful info .If you messed up your order with Jeggs you will
have to pay the freight .You might sell them to someone who wants them and
let them pay shipping .Just something to think about .
I bought some wheels from them this summer and had mis mesured my ofset .
Jegs said they would accept the return but it cost me $75.00 shipping to Ohio
from Idaho . I won't do that again.

Call the vendor. Admit your mistake. Ask for forgiveness. Be nice.

I guess it will hinge on if the other three have been shipped or not. It appears as though only one was shipped.

If the other 3 are on the way I'll live with my mistake because the shipping would make the return not worth it. If not I'll***** up the return shipping on this one to get what I wanted.

If your car lives in a garage and you take care of it, chrome lasts almost forever and you don't have to polish it! I like em.

  24. But the dubs match their meth addled smiles!?

  25. i think the steel chrome looks the best.

Yep it is a garage kept car. I won't have my feelings hurt too bad if I have to keep these. I love Cragars but I'm old enough to remember how*****py the centers looked after the chrome started popping off after a few years. At least with these grey centered ones won't have that problem...and I see the point made by another member about the 1 piece aluminum Cragars looking like they have a thick/heavy rim.

I'll be happy either way.....just giving a word to the wise about online catalog pics and return policies of online vendors. Not slamming Jegs by no means...but they goofed just like I did by listing the wrong pics.

Except that the one in the second pic IS old school. Cragar G/T circa 1966. The entire face is aluminum welded to a steel rim (like the faux torq thrusts of the day - except that kinda proves your point about the cheaper part).

I like the new all aluminum S/S with the grey or black center because they look a lot like the old G/Ts, but in more sizes.
