  5. I replaced an Edelbrock 600-cfm 4-barrel on a stock 4-barrel intake'd 331 Chrysler Hemi with a Speedway (Vintage Speed copy) adapter and two Holley 94's straight up (I ran #51 jets in both carbs and 2.5 Powervalves, set both accelerator pumps in the middle position, eliminated one choke and kept the other one in place), and the difference was NIGHT AND DAY!!! The car laid rubber like never before and the throttle response was AMAZING. I honestly expected the opposite results from the swap, but was only after the aesthetic gains, so I was pleasantly surprised.

  6. The Rochesters may be a bit much for a 283 unless it's warmed over a bit, especially with direct linkage. Not sure if that's what you are planning on running or not, but just figured I'd throw it out there. Also, even though the Speedway part is a copy-cat piece, it is drilled for the small pattern early four-barrel flange as well as the larger spread and square-bore flanges, so it's a touch more versatile.

Charlie and his wife have gotten some bad reports at times, but our experiences have always been fine. In fact, I just bought some parts from them at Turkey Run and she gave me a price then a few minutes later gave me a better price without me asking. But that is just my experience with them.

As for the 2 x 2 setup, yep, I had a 600 Edelbrock on the 350 Vortec in my 23 and it was a sweet running setup. Gas milage was fantastic, smooth response, etc. But it looked lost up there so I bought a 2 x 2 setup from VS that used two Rochesters. I would be lying if I said it ran better because I really believe nothing performs better on the street than a properly tuned single 4 barrel, but the 2 x 2 setup was fine.

Gas milage was not what I got with the Edelbrock, which surprised me as I ran on a 2 barrel most of the time, and power was down a little. However, they sure looked better up there and changed the complexion of the car altogether.

    I would recommend one.

    Don

    With the old 4 barrel...........

    And with the VS setup..........

Thank you for the comments and photos, Don. I appreciate some have had problems with their orders but the photos are the setup I already ordered and received in one week's time and I am only interested in problems with installation/operation. Others can save their comments/complaints about service, etc. for another time. Thanks again!

PS love that new pinstriping on the cowl!

This could get interesting. I'd looked at that setup too.

I got one years ago, and the holes didn't line up well but with tweaking it sealed fine, and worked very well with 2 94's on my 327. I forget the specifics but yeah it was worth it.

I've run this setup on several motors and it works beautifly if.....
The carbs are jetted right, (obviously!), and since I like the 94's, the power valves are right as well. I always run them with a straight linkage. I've seen them run progressive but they just seem to work better for me straight up. Remember the CFM of those carbs is minimal at best, between 135 and 165 each, so this is not a max performance situation but set up right, gas milage is excellent and throttle response is smooth and even with no stumble. Just don't get discouraged, the first time requires a little dialing in.

  18. Good info and was thinking about one of these set ups as well.

It's not exactly new technology. Edelbrock and others marketed Y type adapters for two carbs for flatties and others very early on. Actually I believe they are making them again.

Well, the 4 bbl is off and the 2x2 is on for mock up of fuel lines and throttle cables. My existing throttle cable set-up will need much modification but the fuel system is relatively easy.

Looks good. When I first considered buying the one for my 23 I felt it was sort of a cheating way of getting a multicarb look, but after it was on I actually started to like the way it sat up there. It's like everything else, some will like it and some will not, but at the end of the day you have to please yourself and just yourself.

Your A looks good too. :)

I don't know if this lousy picture will help you figure out your throttle (and kickdown if you have an automatic trans) but here is what I came up with to mount the linkage on my 23. I had Lokar throttle and kickdown linkage and I needed to make a plate for the chrome lokar mount to go onto, so I fabbed up a flat bracket that I cut from flat stock. I made it so it bolted to the back two carb mounting bolts and it curved slightly back and then over so the Lokar mount could bolt on top of it. It worked fine for the 3 years I had it on there before I sold the car.

Looks like your coil would have to go, but I mounted mine to the front of the drivers side head and ran the coil wires from the distributor along the intake to it. Just thought this might help you out a little.

    Don

I found a better picture showing how that bracket was shaped.

And here is where I moved the coil to.

If you look at the very top of this picture you can see the mount I made up and how the Lokar bracket bolted to it.

Blue Moon: that looks great-you going to leave the frog mouths red?

Maybe match the throats to the body color, with an inner pinstripe of the fender color?

Finally did the installation yesterday and today and took a 5 mile test run. Ran great but bogged when I put my foot to it so some adjustments are in order but IT LOOKS *****IN' and otherwise runs GREAT!!! Started easily after fuel reached the carbs, adjusted the idle and off we went. Thanks to those who contributed information.
