I have a late 1961 (August manufacture date) Borg Warner T-10 4 speed. It was given to me tore apart, so I did what research I could to find some prints on how it goes together, and have tried, but the output shaft does not line up with the cluster gear. All the gears are about .250 off. Just wondering if any experts out there have any information which may get me over this hump. There is no such thing as too much information/pics/drawings/video of this if you have it..I will take it all. Appreciate any help. Thanks

We like intros first. Otherwise every yahoo under the sun would be coming here for free advise.

O K those transmissions are junk.. So box it up then carry it to ups. and send to me.. I will be a nice guy and send you 50 dollars and I will pay the frieght.. Thank You and looking forward to the shipment..

  4. I post on a few boards, auto, motorcycle, trailer, genealogy, etc. Believe me, an intro does not, magically, protect anyone from yahoos as I'm sure we all know. Conversely, the lack of one does not guarantee the poster is one, either. I do wonder why so many take this whole intro thing as their personal crusade. I would think that the owner/moderator would be the one to police his board. It also seems rare that the "Intro Gestapo" member will answer the original questions once the protocol has been met and all intros are in place.
Just my sub standard observation ;-)

It's so simple. Can I just walk into your house or garage, with no introduction, no formalities of any kind and ask the same question the OP did and EXPECT help from a complete stranger? It's a common courtesy to introduce one's self when in a new situation. And to compare the request for an introduction to the Gestapo is just plain ignorance.

I've got one in about the same condition as you got that one out in the Milk house waiting to be put back together or p***ed on to a good home.
Do you have a copy of this book? http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...+High-Perf+Muncie+&+Borg+Warner+T10&x=12&y=22

Click on the look inside the book on the Amazon page and scroll down the page when it opens. I don't know how many times it will let you open it but it does show the Ford Top loader four speed and the instructions. Check Item/page 39.

Or this Cd / dvd 130608715309 Ebay number I think the dvd is probably scanned pages out of factory shop manuals though.

The main thing is to back up and take a deep breath and compare what you are working with with the diagrams and instructions you already have and figure out why it doesn't work.

But it is the rules that Ryan made for all to follow , right ?

Anyway there are some good books off Amazon that will show you how to put it back together . It's really not that hard to do .
First replace all the bad syncro and replace any of the gears with any chipped or slightly work teeth on them . You only want to rebuild the trans ONE time !
You can buy the complete kits off line . Goggle and yea shall find anything you need for that trans !

Good Luck and do the damn into to make everyone happy !

    MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE !

I agree, you could provide a lot more info, how about you post some pictures so we have a better idea of what the problem is?

  13. Nice speech. Unfortunately, it doesn't really address the points and observations in my post. As to my ignorance, I will consider the source. In the years that I spent in retail, dealer level auto parts, I had hundreds of people come in and ask questions without having them, or their second, issue a formal introduction. To be honest, I really didn't care who they were, for the most part. I tried to be courteous and helpful in every case. But, hey, I'm just a regular, likeable guy

  14. I would ask you the very same question, my obtuse friend. Reading comprehension seems to be a rapidly fading skill. I did not question Ryan's rules. It's his football, so it's his rules. I have no issue with that. My, tacit, question is why do those with no dog in the fight find it necessary to enforce the rules imposed by others? If someone fail to post an introduction, why do so many junior moderators jump the guy and then, after the intro has been made, fail to answer the OP's question. I don't ride around, all day, and pull people over because they rolled through a stop sign, failed to properly signal for a turn or some other violation.
    It ain't nunna my bizness.......

You say it was all in pieces when you got it so it might have mismatched gears from a different transmission.Markyac makes a good point also, those roller bearings are sometimes hard to keep in place while you are putting the thing back together.

I 2nd what markyac said. Use bearing grease to help hold them in the cage and i usually try and find an empty 5 gallon bucket or something that i can stand the ****** "on end" with the input pointed down so there is less chance of one of the bearings moving. Then you can reach thru the side and hold the 3-4 slider on as you lower the mainshaft into place. Another word of advice before you get to carried away though is find a yoke to fit the output splines and make sure it will slide all the way on, these co**** spline outputs are famous for twisting! Got a june 1962 torn down trying to find a new mainshaft i can afford right now!

This reply by Carl LaFong, and those of his preceding, are SPOT ON as far as I am concerned. I would go one step further and note that some of the HAMB "police" have demonstrated, in my opinon, a pretty curt, unfriendly and/or sarcastic tone in many, if not most, of their posts.

That, in contrast to MOST of the HAMB contributors who are more open and welcoming to participants. Yes, you get the occasional dip**** inquiry..........but, so what? That's everyday life.....here and everywhere else people exist.

Eddy Murphy's last words before he was arrested . . .

Sounds like mismatched parts to me, but start at step one and slowly put it back together, sometimes you miss a step that messes everything else up and creates a box of gears at a swap meet . . .

    :)

I feel for this poor mother****er. A FNG that really wants and needs some help to get his ride back on the road. That is all he sees right now. We have all been there before. Focused on the problem so much that we jump the gun. He was just too excited to do an intro before he created his first post. Forgive and forget.

Hey man why not just put a quick shout out in the intros and then repost. Best to follow the rules so that the guys sitting at home with one hand on their **** and the other on their keyboard are appeased! lolololol
