workin' on a 30 model a and could use some local help/knowledge on how to rebuild this style car. or any websites(other than this one) or books to research the subject. I have an s-10 rearend with a locker, 400 sbc, turbo 350 trans., a 70's camaro rear end, tunnel ram, thats the driveline plan. goin with an aftermarket frame with 4" swoop in front 2" added between front crossmember and firewall and 8" kickup in rear. chopping 5" chanelling 3" or 4". view album in my profile to view car. (i don't know how to attach pics to threads yet)
Looks like it was a hotrod a long time ago.. You don't need books to do an old time build, all you need is hamb Search around on hambers Model A coupe build threads to help get the style you are after. The more you look, the better your car will progress. When you need a second opinion, just learn how to do pics, and ask away. Lots of A coupes here to get the feel.
If you're going to do a 5" chop and 4" channel on a Model A coupe you bettter have real short legs and weigh about 150. There is very little room in a stock A coupe. Chopping it up like you described will really make it small inside. Good luck!. Hopefully others will chime in to give their .02.
Do research here before you start, everything about A coupes is on here. for example search...The Grits coupe build...The Rolf coupe build ... the Tindal coupe build...Guernsey boys model A coupe build... just to name a few. Looks like a nice body.
It's gonna look funny with two rear ends... But good luck anyway...Lots of good build threads here on the HAMB... Learn how to search. Usually less is more...
yes. I have yet to measure which rearend would work best. need my frame first and to aquire that I must first sell the 69 nova to fund it. any off hand sugestions of which would be a better choice. both are 10 bolts.
Huh? Keystone, I always love these threads. I am new and need to be pointed in the right direction as long as . . . Do yourself a favor up at the top of the page there is a search button do a search in the advanced search mode with model A as your criteria and the hokey assed message board as your forum. Look at pictures before you decide on a direction for your build. Tne when you find somethingntat you really like you will be able to say I like this how do I get from where I am to where I want to be. This will take you a day or two but if you remember this one thing in life you will be ahead of the curve, "Anything done in haste is a mistake" Most of us are more than happy to answer your questions. You will be better able to ask them once you have nailed something down solid. Don't get in a hurry you may decide that your opinions and desires change very quickly once you see what is being done with those old coupes. Damn I ment to say welcome to the HAMB
I have been viewing coupe builds on the hamb for some time now and have just recently joined. I have been acquiring parts for about 6 months. I understand the more research I do and knowledge I gain, the better off I will be. that is why I was asking for books or other websites to help me in these area's. I appreciate all of the advise and pointers of the more knowledgeable.
We mentioned looking at other hambers build styles... You really need to pick the basic style and ride height, channel, etc, before deciding on spending $ for a frame...or being able to know what rear axle width. It sounds like you want a very low car, so axle width is critical, and wheel offset type is just as critical. If you want super low, take a look at the "Dreddybear" coupe. If his style is where you like, keep searching for details on it, or others like it. If you are not sure yet, keep going on bodywork first. that's better than a wrong choice on frames. Trust the hamb, you don't need any other website for an A coupe.
Tardel makes a book that you should not be without if you are looking to build a traditional rod. I am not going to assmue that I am the less knowledgeable, you will not find another site on the net tat is more knowledgeable about traditional rods and customs. There are rat rod sites and street rod sites if that is more what you are after.
Yup...no other website needed...I used the HAMB to build my coupe from start to where it is at this point, and as Porknbeaner said, the Tardel book is a good idea to read!
Sloppyseconds built a beautifully finished chopped and channeled a coupe. Also check out Evel's Live Wire for a chopped and channeled coupe with a swept frame. Our cars are low, but they're not ground scraping...theres a good 8-10 inches of clearance under mine.. Word.
