I buy and sell parts and travel around looking for them.I always keep a eye out for old cars as well.Parts, especially NOS dont just end up at my garage, you have to work to get them.About a month ago I was driving through a small town in Minnesota and spotted a old dealership building.Stopped and inquired about NOS parts. There were a few but a nephew had first dibs.Asked what was in a room off the main shop area and the owner said a 1951 Plymouth Cranbrook. All original other than 30 miles on a rebuilt engine.Looked at it,got a price and told the owner I would be back. Now a good friend of mine Tom Fritz(TFritz here on the hamb) was looking for a first car for his 14 year old son.In 1989 I found Tom HIS first old car.A 1949 Plymouth. The die was cast,Tom's son Andrew was about to get his first car. We picked it up today. It hadnt been started in over a year.A spritz of gas and it fired right up.I took some pics as Tom drove it out of the building before we loaded it on the trailer.
The chrome is amazing.Only pimples are on the rer splash guards. It will need a bit of work.Only 1 brake seemed to be functioning and the carb might need a rebuild.Since Andrew cant drive it for a couple years he and Tom can get everything fixed. Not a bad find.Runs, drives, stops(sort of) and is original from paint to interior. Tom will post a pic or 2 later including a pic of the purchase price(maybe).Lets just say it was less than most here will spend on Christmas.
very nice. great cars; we love our '50. gets a lot of attention wherever it goes. have fun and enjoy it.
Well, me and the boy drove it around the block and then put it in the shop. The boy is happy. Fritz and Son of Fritz
By the way, clean ***le-transfered already-got my plates and a O so cheap price. Lets say it was so cheap you had to buy it.
Kick ***... I wish I had been into the 65 gmc my step-dad got in trade for some landscaping he did when I was about 15. Instead we sold it and bought me a Honda CRX.....hey, you live and learn, right?? Super nice car, congrats!
Cleaned up darn nice. You might want to register over at P15 D25 board, you can get some good info from the folks there, it a bit newer than most but mechanicals are the same. There is a lot of good reading on the host page for the forum, regarding maintenence, parts suppliers, tech stuff, Brakes are a bit tricky on these, as they are lockheeds, so adjustment is different than bendix, You need a big honking puller to get threar drums off. And the lug bolts on one side are not lefty loosy, and I've forgotten which side so go easy when one side won't loosen no matter what. Also 6V electrical is POSITIVE GROUND.
My father-in-law is looking at a '52 Plymouth Hardtop. I'm hoping that he buys it. Hoping even more that he decides to bag it, and we can kill two birds with one stone and bring my '51 Chevy along for the project. I had to question him on what drew him to that model - as its kind of away from the norm of what he typically likes. Apparently, its for nostalgic reasons - it was the first car that he did an engine swap in.
