Yeah, it is pretty darn solid. I can't complain about the little bit of sheet metal that needs replacing. My biggest holdup right now is trying to prioritize. My main focus right now is getting the major rust gone, chop the top and get it to the blasters. I still need a transmission so I can mock everything up and modify what needs to be modified. Money money money, we all know how that goes!

Great looking build! I have always loved those chevys.
I can't see a running board from a '40 fitting on the '41. '40 and '41 Chevys were two similar, yet different body styles. I believe the '41 body was widened to make it the first year without the running board. The '40 had a full, removable running board kind of like the '40s-'50s trucks. I think adding a running board would mess up the smooth lines that they were designed with.
    IMHO, YMMV
    Keep up the great work

I love the look of running boards on 30's-40's era cars. I would be using a full steel running board painted to match the car. I see what you're saying about the body being widened. I can always take an inch or two out of the width of the running board to make it fit right and not look out of place.

I've been piddling with it a little bit. My work schedule makes my sleep habits extremely erratic and most of the time I'm zombified, finding myself moving around the house aimlessly haha. I ordered half of the patch panels I need a few days ago from http://www.hotrodssheetmetal.com/. David was a super nice dude.

Got a head start on the passenger rear quarter patch. I knew there was a little rust to take care of behind there.

Cut the repair panels out of a sheet of steel. One piece is done and ready to weld in. Hopefully I'll have the other piece fabbed and ready to install before the patch panels get here this week.

Then I'll move on to rocker panel (which I already cut out a while back), then the lower cowl.

Here is a picture of it lowered. I just pulled the leaf springs and tacked them to some 1/2" spacers and frame. Pulled the front coil springs and let it sit. It's just temporary so I could see it low. It's still up in the air what kind of suspension I'm going to run.

Welded in a couple of pieces today. Couldn't order these parts so I finally got to practice a little metal working.

The patch panels for the right side came in yesterday. Looks like this is gonna be a fun challenge!

Started on the passenger rocker panel yesterday. I opted to put the sill in in 2 pieces. Now that I know what's involved, I might do the driver side in one piece. The picture is from yesterday . I made a little more progress today.

I also stopped by the local paint supply store to get some abrasive discs and looked at their paint samples. I'm pretty sure I found the color I want to go with. It's called "Moss Madness" by PPG. A smile immediately came across my face when I saw it. The picture doesn't do it justice.

  15. You made quick work of things, nice job! She's a great canvas for you to create something unique. Nice metal work I might add. Good luck with the build and if its cool, I may bug you in a few months when I start to tackle metal work on my '47!

I wasn't referring to the door sill plates, I'm aware they didn't come with running boards. I had the idea of fabbing them up, but that's an idea I have left behind. Just love the looks of them. Thanks for the input though!

Finally got motivated and had some time to work on it the past couple of days with my friend, Brad Potocik. I still have some welding to do. We made a lot of headway though! Pretty damn happy with the way it's coming along so far.

My favorites are the '42 Chevy's, Merc's and Plymouth coupes. All have classy lines.

Gavin - can you take some measurements for me? I have the drivers cowl, rocker and quarter patched to do. I need to know how far from the frame the inner rocker is. My quarter is shot as is they behind it so I can quite tell where the end of the rocker is really supposed to be. I also need to replace the end of the floor braces.
