Pretty sure I have seen some mild ones in some of the period mags. But the only one i have seen in person is a refresh I did myself on an old Jo-Han model kit - I painted it a Testors Boyds lime green pearl, used the bullet grille that came with one of the two kits in the basket case, painted the interior in 50's pink and put black irregular stripes all over - like watermelon seeds, green outside, pink inside - like a watermelon or that Star Trek green slave girl, except maybe for the "seeds" - Wheels were from the latest issue AMT '57 Ford kit, some modern style mags (they must be scale 14" or 15" rims) and set down low. It looked pretty nice when I did it -
I may be able to dig up some. The majority of the Lark rods I've seen have been big-dollar billet rides; I can't recall one that was done traditionally.
I think that Hawks make better customs. They're a natural for two-tone paint jobs, and have some wild Raymond Lowey styling.
I know of one here in town that a old timer is selling. Trying to see if I can be inspired. What I really want is either not in my $$$ range or a 4 door.
Isn't the Lark the one they offered a supercharger (very rare) on from the factory? Talk about the ultimate sleeper!
Later Larks could also be had w/ the McCulloch supercharger as well... they were definitely fast little cars. I still haven't found any good examples for ya, but here's my dad's wagon that he just bought not long ago. He did manage to stuff a 454 bbc in this thing, without modifying the factory sheetmetal. Has a set of Torque Thrusts on it, and I believe the skinny white walls are gone now.
Theres a guy here in town that had a Larkamino/Larkchero built. It was a Thom Taylor rendition drawing. Turned out exactly like the picture. I'll see if I can find it and get a pic. Definately kill lil cars. Oil Can Harry knows a bunch about these lil cars. He might even have a pic or two......Shiny
cool, don't see too many 2 door Lark Wagons, I was thinking of stuffing my left over 454 in mine too. what did your dad do for steering, brakes and suspension? I know it's not a "custom" like you asked for but, here's my rust bucket again..and the big block that would go in it..
Man- you've got a nice collection of engines! Here's the response I got from pops: ______ Steering is stock Studebaker. Headman headers. Front brakes are from Turner (http://www.turnerbrake.com) and the rear is a Lincoln 9 with disc brakes. MC is Vette under the floor. The only tweak needed was to bend up the upper firewall seam near the distributor for clearance and run an early points-type distributor... ______ I think he may have some pics of this stuff, if you're interested... just shoot me a pm and I'll try and track some of 'em down.
Need some ideas for custom taillights for a '62/'63 Lark. What have people used? '60 Buick? early Falcon? Also, any source out there for fender skirts for same?
This is a year old question, but just in case someone reads it, try Studebaker International and http://www.bigjims.net Also there are Stude/old car goodies at this site: http://www.autocables.com.au Happy Studebakerin' !
