I have four cars with Hagerty at an agreed value in six figures and the premium went down this year. One of the things I noticed when I got the policy was the attachment referring to Colorado insurance laws. My Hagerty policy also meets the requirements of my homeowners umbrella coverage.
That's who I have had all 4 of my cars through for 15 years, have had several small claims, (mostly windshields) and never a problem. It might help that I am also an Independent Agent for them but I don't think so as far as rates are concerned. Groucho, if you can still read this, give me a call at seven one five, six two seven, four three zero two. BB
My father is a independant insurance agent and he just placed me with Hagerty. He looked into several and for my needs Hagerty fit the best. Its a 62 Nova covered to $8,500 with a $500 deductable. My yearly payment is $144!!! It does have some requirements on my policy....3000 miles a year and the car has to be kept in a locked garage. When it goes to the shop they prefer to have it at a shop where it can be kept inside. We will see how it works out. I just got it last Friday so I hope I don't need to use it for awhile.
I have my galaxie insure with american family, and my 53 before that. I have regular plates, no garage or mileage restrictions, and its still cheaper than my other "daily driven" vehicles. I had to have an appraiser come look at the vehicle and photograph it, but he turned out to specalize in classic vehicles and was spot on with the value I thought it deserved. I would check with whoever you insure your dailys through, because american family does also have classic insurance for vehicles with YOM or classic plates. It never hurts to ask. I guess this is a tip for others, since Groucho is gone, but still thought it was worth sharing
got my hagerty bill last week, dropped $67 over last year, thought they made a mistake and called them, nope went down!So i added more coverage.
Just a thought, Cont. Western has NO MILAGE LIMITATION ON HOT RODS AND KUSTOMS. That is another reason I have my coverage with them. The others all wanted no part of my policy because of the number of miles I rack up. BB
Something else to consider is that each state has it's own insurance commission that mandates coverage it thinks is important. That's what makes comparing premiums and policy "restrictions" from different states generally worthless. Also, location plays into the potential loss calculations that drive premium rates, so for example, a higher crime area will likely cost more than a lower one. Since Groucho is banned we may have to find out through others what the deal with 4 cars is. It could be that California has impossed some new law/rule/restriction/whatever (who woulda imagined that!) that causes the company to put the car count up for new policies to make it pencil out.
I've used state farm for years. I have referrered over ten friends to my agent, specifically for the classic coverage. Its cheap and covers good. Check them out.
Ive had Hagerty(pricey) good Service, Grundy(cheaper, shitty service) and now I have it through my local Farmers Insurance, my agent is a car guy and I get exceptional service and a good rate.
I was with State Farm for years. Agent also a car guy. Policy scared me even though I had photos on file with them. What the agent tells you is differant than the company says. I changed my coupe with Grundy for about 6 months and added my pickup. I had a small claim on the coupe and was paid in a couple days after filing. The only thing I noticed was they do as other companies and up your coverage without asking. Automatic thing I heard. I contacted my agent and he fixed that. Happy here!
THE MOST IMPROTANT THING TO REMEMBER IS WHAT KIND OF COVERAGE THE COMPANY PROVIDES STATED VALUE: That means the company is allowed to depreciate the value of the vehicle at the time of the claim from the amount that is stated on the policy. So if your vehicle is totaled or stolen and not recovered the company will depreciate your claim downward from the STATED VALUE shown on the policy. AGREE VALUE: That means the the company WILL NOT depreciate the value of the vehicle at the time of the claim from the amount that is AGREED on the policy. So, if your vehicle is totaled or stolen and not recovered the amount that will be paid is the AGREED VALUE stated on the policy. I am not familiar with states other than Wisconsin but to my knowledge the ONLY companies that write an AGREED VALUE policy are the specialty companies, meaning that main line insurance companies such as State Farm, American Family and such only write Stated value policies.
I had Hagarty years ago but they would not cover my early Bronco since its 4 wheel drive. I have had 5 cars covered with American Collectors ins for years now, no claims. So cheap I might buy more cars. Now Arizona gives me tags for 5 years for $58. Man I love this old tin.
I insured my 59 Buick through my State Farm agent and it was simple and cheap, my agent came by and snapped a few pics and that was about it
When JC Taylor asked if I had the original motor in my Deuce Roadster and I told them it was a Hemi, the price quote went insane. Allstate added it on with my other cars for a reasonable premium. I forget the numbers, but a substantial difference. Allststate now has my business.

I know for a fact that Allstate in Wisconsin DOES NOT WRITE AGREED VALUE I have no axe to grind here but you had better check to see what kind of coverage you have with them. I represent them and they DO NOT WRITE AGREED VALUE. at least here, maybe in Florida they do, but I cannot write insurance in Florida so I don't know for sure. I will be willing to bet that you have STATED VALUE. BB
We have a State Farm office pushing collector car insurance locally. When I asked about Stated Value vrs Agreed Value got the run around. They don't offer Agreed Value no mater what they tell you. Been using Grundy for my two. No claims so far.
You might check into AAA they have an old car policy now. Automobile Club of Southern California. CRUISER
My 49 suburban is with hagarty and my 93 chevy truck will be with jc taylor next month because they will consider it a classic
Try American Collectors Insurance in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. I've had excellent service with them. They're not only reasonable but they're available when you need to speak with someone.
I go with American Collector Insurance. It's through USAA and they are awesome. Had Hagerty since 1996, then let it drop when the car wasn't driven. When I tried to renew - they wouldn't let me bc my "new" driver ('01 Mazda pu owned by Dad) had been in a few accidents when he owned it and I lived out of State. He was elderly. They argued that they didn't know if I was driving when they happened!!! They gave me coverage but I had had enough. That was assinine!
I recieved my policy renewal from Grundy in the mail last night; only one vehicle (36 ford pickup) on my policy. I have had this policy with Grundy for only a year now. Philadelphia Insurance Company now underwrites for Grundy so the check goes to Philadelphia IC. The only change to my policy was an increase of the agreed value (4% increase over last year) and an additional $13 dollars added to the premium in accordance with the policy terms. No other changes to the policy at all for me.
Try The Hartford; Ive had home, car, and antique auto insurance with them for over a decade now and theyve kept my rates low, given me discounts and handled claims pretty well.
Insurance for my classics is always a quandary. I need an "agreed value" policy but I'm not likely to drive in a parade or special event. I'd like to drive my cars anytime but don't want to risk a $60k classic car to a "stated value" policy. Like from that Hartford link above: Sorry but that ain't good enough for me.
I called Grundy about three weeks ago and was told they wanted three or four cars; which some can be daily drivers. I'm really happy with the quote they gave me for all of my cars.
