I don't want to hear "It's tractor paint, it's not for cars!"The Trad Police can sit this one out too.

My kid wants to paint my old hot-rodded '01 Dodge Dakota in Blitz Black. He's 16 and grew up in this truck, and it's his now. He loves suede black paint, and the truck is in dire need of paint. Plus he's a broke high school kid, so JD Blitz Black is perfect.

How many gallons will it take to re-paint a mid-size truck? I guess I'm asking, will one cover it, one and a quart, one and two quarts, or two gallons. Like I said--he's a broke high school kid... think back to when you were 16 and what the difference between $39 and $12 was.

1 Gallon paint. 50/50 ratio..... My last paint job on my Buick we used mineral spirits and it laid on NICE!

  3. Brad a gallon should do it.Maybe better off to have a gallon and a quart to make sure you have enough for the bed. But a gallon should do it just fine.

BTW I am painting my truck with Ford gray and the raven painted his roadster with the same paint and won best traditional rod at the world of wheels with it.

Paint is paint doesn't matter if it is called tractor paint of boat paint it is still just paint.

    Hello Brad,

One gallon will do ya. Make sure to use the JD hardener, otherwise the paint will scratch easily. Mineral spirits works well as a reducer, just make sure you use the correct mixture, which is 8:1:1. FWIW, the rattle cans blend in excellently for touch up.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. So will Boy Wonder!

I agree... paint is paint... but the "it's tractor paint!" comment comes up in just about every Blitz Black thread. I guess I'm getting grumpy in my old age, because I just don't have the patience for The Trad Police and other opinionated whiners.

I put blitz black on the Widow Wagon, but that was a looooong while ago. like, over 8 years. Sadly, the car hasn't progressed past that, though it is closer.

I love the look of soft, mellow paint. I bet that Ford gray looks awesome after it's been washed and dried with a hotel towel!
