I always wanted a 30/31 "A" vicky ,but they are pretty rare around here, I have just bought a 29 tudor ,has anyone ever made one into a vicky? I have been kicking this idea around for the last couple of days. Also Is the a place where I can get the body measurements for a vicky? Thanks

There was a cat a few years back that made one. It was some award winner...Street Rod of the year? Maybe?

Anyway there was a write up in Street Rodder about it. It was orange and if I remember right, fenderless, with a straight axle and coil overs up front.

The thing that was kinda wrong about the car was, he simply leaned the back of the car forward and called it a Vicky. It didn't have the vertical back window with the ***y little rear hump vickys have.

But I agree with you, if you can do it, it would be WELL worth the effort. I have always dug Vickys and there cousin the B-400.

Let us know how it works out!

Chad, I thought about building a 28-29 Vicky years ago. Consider using the roof of something like a 53-53 Chevy or 55 Buick to make the rear bussel. Top of the rear window roof section attached to the A rear beltline would give you a good start. I've seen tha orange 28-29 that was mentioned avove, nice job but too hitech looking for me.

Well I think I am gonna go for it!!!I have to pick up the body this comming friday.

Mike I need to know the length of the rear window,So I know how much to shorten the rear 1/4 's,If it's not too much trouble

I have the roof from a 74 VW beatle that might have the right contour for the rear bustle,I wont do it unless I can replicate the rear bustle. That's what I like about the vicky....

Anyone got any pics of this orange one that was mentioned above,

    Thanks alot fella's

  7. A guy in Langley/Surrey area of Vancouver, British Columbia, did up a really nice 28-9 Vicky several years ago. He still has it. Painted black and bang on, looks like a factory original body. The top is chopped as well. I don't think I have a pic of it, maybe someone on the west coast has a pic. His name is Mike Stedman. If need be I will dig up a phone number so you can contact him for some pics. Best one I have ever seen, in fact only one I have ever seen. Pat.

    Chad,
I know it doesn't make much difference to you because you are buildind a custom body, but some of the differences a Victoria has are: 1. Longer doors 2. Flush fitting doors 3. The roof is about 2 inches shorter than stock Model A ( Factory chop you know). 4. Victoria and A-400 only interior mouldings 5. Lots and lots of wood for structural support. 6. No visor. I'm sure I missed a lot but that is what I can think of of hand. I will measure my windows this week and PM you. If you can think of anything else let me know.

I knew about the doors, I fogot to ask ,Because I have 2 sets of doors for this heap I have. It's no problem to lenthen' them ,I have to make new door skins also .The roof will no doubt get a 4' haircut anyway..I also wasnt sure about running a visor or not,I think it might look neat with a visor....I have only seen one 30 vicky around here being built and I couldnt beleive how much wood they have in them, alomost as bad my 30 chev sport coupe.I am not gonna worry about flush fitting the door...Thanks again

The sweep on the roof combined with the shortened quarters didn't quite work..JMO

The only thing that has me worried is forming the rear bustle.....The rest is not really a problem(doors etc...)

my opinion on this ride.....loved it....but didn't like the axle out front.....and the raised wheel openings.....the car needs more rake......not just big and littles.....still a neat car.....i think i read it was a unibody deal......everything welded together......

as for the 28/29 vicky deal.....the guy i get my western tin from has a grabber blue fendered 28/9 vicky .....bob is out of sardina ohio......also has a red a model flatbed truck ....and had a yellow t/a modified ....but he crashed it earlier this year....( i think) brandon

Chad I have a photo of one a guy did here in Australia years ago, he visited me once. I didn't much like the car as a whole. But I loved the concept of the 28/29 Vicky body. Haven't got time now to look for the photo, but I will in the next couple of days and post it! Geoff aka whodaky

I know this isn't much help,,,but you could cut the body below the beltline and flip it over and pull the rear of the top forward,,,,that would give you the bulb effect of a vicky on the rear,,,,

A friend of mine Paul H. built a vicky and was in the process of putting the finishing touches on it when he died of a heart attack a few years ago,,,,,,,,

He too wanted a vicky and had a 30/31 project vicky's,,,

He was the kinda guy that had to carry things to extremes and he decided to build a 28/29 vicky to fool the restorer crowd,,,,

Paul used a 28/29 cowl,,,chopped it slightly and slanted the windshield post back to fit the 30/31 vicky doors,,,,which are a good bit longer and a little lower than sedan doors,,,,,and then attached the 30/31 body with the 28/29 cowl and used the 28 fenders ,,,,,it looked like something HENRY made,,,,

His son said he was gonna keep it forever,,,,,,but the little **** sold it to finance his drug addiction,,,and he too is pushing up daisy's now!

I believe it would fool most model A guys,,,,,and I have no idea where it is now or what happened to it but I am always asking the restorer crowd if the have ever seen a 28/29 vicky at any of the restorer shows,,,,they always say Henry never made one,,,,,Oh, yeah he did!,,,,

    Ya see Paul's middle name is,,,,,,HENRY :D

Howdy! This thread is many years old, but I was curious to see if you finished your Sedan to Vicky build? Do you have any pics? How did you make the rear "Vicky" bustle? I'm super interested because I have a '30 Briggs Blindback Fordor that I'm making into a "3-window" Vicky. I'm working on the ch***is and drive-train now, but I'll be starting my body modifications soon.

A big challenge will be to match all the varying widths when I move the front doors back to the wheel arches, remove most of the rear doors and move the top half of the rear forward to meet the front doors. And then there's fabricating the bustle.

I've thought of using the bottom half of the rear by extending it a few inches and laying it forward, but I want that compound curve to match on each side underneath the c-pillar.

I might make a wooden buck and shape a rear in 3 pieces.

If you used a roof or laid the rear forward like mentioned in the above posts; I'd love to hear what you used, or how you did it. And any pictures too!

I made this picture using Paint and Photoshop to see what it would look like... I have to admit, it would've been pretty sweet, if Henry included a "3-Window" Vicky in his line-up!

chaseg30,Welcome to the HAMB! First thing you should know is the fact that the Blind Back Fordors are rare, and you may get some flack for cutting one up. I like the photo shop you put together. Do a search of the HAMB for the Build "Modified Murray" it will have a lot of usefull info for your build. Bob

The37Kid, thanks for the welcome! I'll defiantly check out that thread. They're defiantly rare, especially having the steel back and not leather. So flack is expected. Mine is severely crumpled on the driver's side because of a roll. But luckily some have already preserved them as perfect originals, allowing me to have lots of fun with mine :) Thanks again!
